A Must Read! Eloquently thought out and put on paper like a painting coming to life with each color magnificent and each stroke in high detail with sharp edges. "That 'Shhhhht' Cart"......Whew! Being from the States and having limited thoughts of the Caribbean as blue water, sandy beaches and an easy living for the people, Dr. Mottley has shed light in a lot of shadow filled corners in my own life and has my head spiraling with my own thoughts of country, people and the struggle for what's right.
When I first picked up this book, I planned to just browse the first couple articles so I can get a feel of where it is going, then come back at a later time and read it through in one sitting... But instead, I read and read and read. The posts allowed me to open up my eyes about what is really going on with the education system in my home country, as well as learn about new adventures that I didn't even know existed. I actually look forward to my next visit back home as a tourist would plan a vacation because there are so many things that I want to experience that I haven't before. His writings pertaining to life on a philosophical and psychological level were all things that I have studied before and agree with, but he reiterated each point to me beautifully. It was like looking at the same idea with fresh eyes. I also find it amazing that the issues Dr. Mottley detailed so precisely in the articles that were written before I was even born... are still so incredibly relevant today! It's like wow, 30 years and we're still here? These issues are not just relevant to Antigua and Barbuda, not just to the Caribbean, but to the world. It was so amazing that I was reading about 1982 Antigua, and it looks exactly like 2012 America. What have we learned?
This book has been such a great read and it will force you to open up your eyes to your environment, your lifestyle, and your world.
