Editorial Reviews

From the Artist

"Presenting this anthology is quite important to me, especially some of the songs that have never been released. Most people have heard the hits, but very few realize how many songs one must write in order to get the memorable ones, and sometimes because of bad timing, some really good songs just go unnoticed. It's these orphans that I really love. I hope you enjoy this collage of some of my favorite moments."

Product Description

For many musical decades, Randy Bachman has clearly been one of the world's most enduring and popular rock entertainers. His work with The Guess Who, Bachman Turner Overdrive, and his solo works have all stood the test of time.

Since his long lasting association with Friday Music, which have included our rare pre-RCA Guess Who collections, his many fans have been asking us to release more of his fine works. We thought an Anthology of his hard -to- find solo work, and rare collaborations would be a more than a dream for his long time fans.

Jam packed with 13 unforgettable performances, Anthology (1965-2006) captures his finest solo work, a glimpse of his first Guess Who recording ( the rare single mix of "Shakin' All Over"), live tracks and newly recorded versions of some of his biggest songs like "Takin' Care of Business" and "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet." Plus tracks from his critically acclaimed Canadian-only "Jazz Thing" album.

All in all, over an hour of the greatest recordings of Randy Bachman. Hand picked, annotated, and remastered by the legend himself. His good friends like Neil Young, Curtis Stigers, Margo Timmons and The Guess Who are all a part of the celebration....now it's your turn.

2.0 out of 5 stars Randy, Man, I Love You, But This Album Is Not What It Should Be, January 11, 2010

Randy Bachman has always been one of those solid rocker/songwriters who I've admired. The Guess Who, BTO....incredible stuff. Beautiful rock songs. Nice variety, hard rocking stuff you'll hear on the radio (Taking Care of Business) and jazzy licks you love but seldom hear (Looking Out for Number One). This album contains a lot of re-recorded songs (probably for some legal reason?)---yes, that's "re-recorded", not remastered. OH NO! I know that a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds, but I don't think its foolish for an ANTHOLOGY to have songs lifted from prior albums--the songs we'd like to hear again, if you please. Randy, I have every Guess Who and BTO album--I don't mind the repetition.

The re-recordings, as you can guess by my tone, are not quite what I was hoping for. They sound tired and flat. Maybe I'm too critical or hidebound in my thinking here---please, others weigh in on this. There is good news--the Runaway tribute to Del Shannon (remember Tom Petty's homage to it?) is a nice surprise.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great guitar player, March 3, 2010

Randy Bachman from the Guess Who and Bachman, Turner Overdrive is a great guitar player. I saw him in concert and he was great. He was really too good for The Guess Who and really showed how good he could be in Bachman Turner Overdrive. This CD is a dissapointment as it shows a variety of Bachman's songs, but they are not all his best. I guess I really wanted Randy Bachman's greatest hits. Anyway it gives a good sample of Randy Bachman's music.
