5.0 out of 5 stars At once beautiful, enlightening, and romantic, July 22, 1999
This review is from: An Anthology of Sanskrit Court Poetry: Vidyakara's "Subhasitaratnakosa" (Harvard Oriental Series) (Hardcover)
Professor Daniel H.H. Ingalls, Sanskrit Scholar and Harvard Professor died at age 83, July 21, 1999. I read this book when it first came out in 1965, was amazed by the poetry and his sensitivity to language. I was also (being the callow youth I was then) thoroughly surprised about how much I learned in that book. SANSKRIT COURT POETRY is at once beautiful, enlightening, and romantic, even erotic in a very subtle way. It is a tribute the Dr. Ingalls that it has been reissued these 34 years later. Few poetry books are granted that honor. His certainly deserves it. I look forward to reading it again.
