This review is from: Anthology Of World Music: The Music Of Laos (Audio CD)
Tracks 3 and 10 are really lovely. Track 11 is valuable, but the clip is too short (of course, the performance of the Phra Lak Phra Lam takes a couple nights!). This music was recorded before the 1975 revolution, so track 10 is performed by the palace orchestra of Luang Prabang. 3 and 11 are performed by the Vientiane School of Music. I've heard better khene recordings, but the ones here aren't too bad. For good information about the khene and Lao music in general, try LAN-XANG.com - it has an excellent introduction to the music and has plenty of real audio files, most of which are recorded by Lao people rather than ethnomusicologists! It's a real treat.
