I am a Group Vice President at Gartner Inc. and a Gartner lead analyst for social media and Web 2.0.
In the years I have been working with social media and mass collaboration I've become convinced of its potential to change the world and, in particular, the business world. Over the past 4 years as an analyst I've traveled the world talking to hundreds of organizations about what they are doing and could do with social media. It is astounding! As with any significant change it will take time but the early indications of its potential for transformation are unmistakeable and inspiring. The problem facing us today is that by far, most organizations are making critical mistakes and the failure rate is high.
Here is some of my experience. I spearheaded the creation of and now lead Gartner's analyst blogosphere. I also participated in the design of Gartner's Peer Connect social media community. I've been building and investigating mass collaboration for over fifteen years. Before joining Gartner, as cofounder and Chief Technology Officer of Appergy Inc., I developed several mass collaboration solutions.
When leading META Group's Digital Products Division I was responsible for delivering collaborative solutions for clients to execute on change initiatives using META Group content. With Booz, Allen, Hamilton I worked on several social media projects including a multi-million dollar design alternative effort for Army Knowledge On-line (AKO).
I earned my MBA from the Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine and my undergraduate from the United States Naval Academy.
I now live with my wife and two children in San Antonio, Texas, USA.
