  • The NF-S12A features the third evolution of Noctua's classic Straight Blade Design that has earned its S12 series countless recommendations from hardware journalists and enthusiasts around the world.
  • The NF-S12A's Anti-Stall Knobs reduce flow separation phenomena in medium to high impedance situations n thereby increase the fan's stall margin, that is even more versatile than its renowned predecessor .
  • Noctua's AAO (Advanced Acoustic Optimization) frames feature integrated anti-vibration pads as well as Noctua's proprietary Stepped Inlet Design and Inner Surface Microstructures, both of which further refine the fan's performance/noise efficiency.
  • Noctua's Stepped Inlet Design adds turbulence to the influx to facilitate the transition for laminar flow to turbulent flow, that reduces tonal intake noise, improves flow attachment, incur suction capacity, especially in space restricted environments.
  • Integrated Anti-Vibration Pads made from extra-soft silicone minimize the transmission of minute vibrations while maintaining full compatibility with all standard screws and other mounting systems.
  • Supporting fully automatic PWM speed control, NF-S12A PWM uses Noctua's novel, custom designed NE-FD1 PWM IC that integrates SCD tech. By providing smoother torque impulses, SCD suppresses PWM switching noises, thus makes the fan quieter at low speeds.
  • The NF-S12A PWM is supplied with a Low-Noise Adaptor (L.N.A.) that reduces the maximum fan speed from 1200 to 900rpm. The L.N.A can be used either to run the fan at a fixed speed of 900rpm or to cap the maximum speed when using automatic PWM control.
  • With the tips of the fan blades sloughing thru the Inner Surface Microstructures' the boundary layer, flow separation for the suction side of the blades is significantly suppressed that reduced blade passing noise n improved airflow n pressure efficiency.

I put this fan up against the Noctua NF-F12 which as running at 1500RPM, but the NF-S12A runs at 1200RPM and it produced better results at a slower speed.

So here we have a fan that can run considerably slower than others but yet produce the same or better performance results, I'd say that in itself is a pretty good reason to get one.

The Noctua NF-S12A PWM fan is very much worthwhile especially if you value performance and silence as it offers a balanced combination of both.

Overall I'm impressed with the NF-S12A, it offers excellent cooling performance at slow speeds. The fan can work great to keep your CPU cool or you could use it with a radiator or just as a regular case fan.

The cable of the fan is rather short, but you usually don't need a long cable if you're using it with a CPU cooler. The short cable is good for this instance. If you're using the NF-S12A as a case fan the short cable isn't so good, but Noctua was kind enough to include an extension cable for just such an occasion.

Noctua also included a `Y' adapter so you can quality and easily connect two fans, as you might on a CPU cooler, to just one fan header.

Got 2 of these for my 240 radiator. WOW . . what a difference . . around 10 - 12 celciius actually. on 50- 60% RPM, it's inaudible.
Around 75% i can start to hear it a bit inside my swiftech 820 case. at 100% during stress test it's just a little louder than the pump but still not annoyingly so.
love the accessories it came with: y-cable, extension cable, low noise adaptor. I can see some people needing the extension cable as the connector wire on the fan was almost exact for my setup.
All in all, you get what you pay for. Def plan on buying a few more. Not worried about making everything match inside my case. So if the noctua clolor scheme annoys you, I guess you could always paint the fan as some people have done or just buy another fan of your liking.

I reserve 5 stars for truly stellar products. I give 4 stars to great products. THIS THING IS QUIET!!! I replaced the Antec Tricool 120mm fan in my P183 case. No comparison.

Massive amounts of airflow, plus i can barely hear it, it is quite literally the perfect computer case fan for the size. The only downside i have with this fan is the rubber anti-vibration mounts are quite challenging to get on if you dont have a lot of space for your hands, however its definitely worth the effort.

I ordered four of these to replace the six year old fans in my full size Thermaltake case while doing a computer upgrade. Along with this upgrade, I decided to also get the Noctua NH-U12 CPU heatsink and an additional Noctua NF-F12 fan for the heatsink. So six Noctua fans in total. There are now only two that haven't been replaced. One is a 220mm fan and the other is a hard drive cooling fan that does not even really have to be there and doesn't make any noise so I didn't replace it. All of the Noctua are 4 pin fans to provide more flexiblity over my 3 pin fans since I can now adjust the RPM with that extra pin using PWM on my motherboard.

The packaging is very professional and easy to open. The accessories are well thought out and they make sure you have everything you need to hook up the fan with very little fuss. The fan quality also appears to be top notch. I like the rubber (or silicone) mounting hardware that replaces the screws. I was only able to use this in one location and, although was a bit of a pain to install, seems to work extremely well. And along with the rubber (or silicone) corner pieces on the fans, it creates a very quite setup.

I ran the fan tuning on my motherboard and received a cooling rating of 0.4°C/Watt. I don't know if this is great but I know it's good and I'm happy with it. In silent mode in idle CPU conditions, all the Noctua fans will turn off except for the CPU fans which stay on at low RPMs. When the fans are running at lower RPM's, I cannot hear them even after unplugging the big 220MM case fan. But in turbo mode, I hear them all spin up and start pumping that air through the case keeping it nice and cool.

The only downside is the color. I don't like it. But for anyone looking in my case that is knowledgeable of fans (this would be no-one), they would spot the Notua's immediately and know I went with quality.

I'm pasting this review from my website but you will have to go to my website in order to see the benchmark results because I cannot put pictures in Amazon reviews. I posted the link in the comments because Amazon doesn't allow URLs in reviews.

Noctua has become one of the most popular companies in the cooling market and every enthusiast knows their products when they see one because of the color scheme that they use. The NF-S12A PWM is Noctua's third generation fan but there are also two other variations of the S12A series case fans, the ULN and FLX. These three variations are the new fans from Noctua and they are part of the S12A series fans. According to Noctua, they are 8% better than its predecessor thanks to the many new features such as the anti-stall knobs and the AAO (Advanced Acoustic Optimization) that can drastically improve the airflow/noise efficiency of your case.

All three variations of the S12 series fans come with a 6 year warranty and with a MTBF of 150,000 hours. They also use Noctua's SSO2 bearing with metal bearing shell. The rear magnet is placed closer to the axis to provide better stabilization and durability thus creating less noise. The metal bearing shell is made from CNC milled brass that delivers long term stability and durability.

The NF-S12A PWM model runs at a maximum of 1200 RPM with an airflow rating of 107.5 m3/h. It comes with a Low-Noise-Adaptor to reduce the maximum speed during PWM control from 1200 to 900rpm. It also comes with Noctua's custom designed NE-FD1 IC for fully automatic speed control via 4-pin fan headers.

+Packaging:

The packaging has a matte finish and feels very well in hand.
