Excellent primer,
By Mark Tempestilli (Maryland, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Anti-submarine warfare (Hardcover)
As a career USN ASW specialist--who spent literally 1000's of hours directly on real-world ASW operations, planning and detailed simulations, from a variety of positional perspectives, and in turn taught & evaluated the same for new specialists--I can vouch for this book. The author is a true ASW specialist-warrior who rose to high rank in the Royal Navy, which had the Cold War NATO task of leading Fleet ASW in the Atlantic. Plus he knows how to convey this topic to a general public. The book may not be very long, nor deep, nor even current regarding technological systems and some new tactics, BUT it does an absolutely great job introducing the lay person to ASW--for which the fundamentals are the same today as they were 70 years ago in fighting the Nazis and Imperial Japan from deep ocean to inshore. In fact, I have used it over & over for just that purpose of introducing new and interested but non-professional people. Those who comment against it are likely either already ahead of it (or think they are, though the fundamentals are always worth reminding oneself) or are captivated only by whiz-bang technology or intense "war stories." If that's not your bent, and if you want to start to learn about this subject through a broad overview, go get yourself an out-of-print copy before you go deeper.

For Readers Want to Understand ASW,
This review is from: Anti-Submarine Warfare (Hardcover)
This is not a very thick nor with latest inforamtion of anti-submarine technology. The contents is still good for readers who want to get basic idea of the anti-submarine warfare. After you finish this book, you would be able to understand some of the terms in other books and articles and you are readt to go to read more in depth.
