ASM Press has done us a favor by issuing a revised "Antibiogram" in English translation. As they did with Bryskier's "Antimicrobial Agents", the publishers have provided an invaluable resource that was a classic in its original form, and is now updated with current information (essential for a volume that discusses a topic as fluid as antimicrobial drug activity) and is accessible to English speakers. The volume is loaded with useful information and reflects current thinking on a wide range of issues, compiled by international experts in the field. My only significant criticism is that, as with other volumes published by ASM Press, the volume could have been improved with more careful editing. The preface, for example, is nearly unreadable, suffering from both poor translation, sloppy typography, and what appear to be un-proofed editorial comments. Readers are advised to clear this initial hurdle, since the majority of the chapters are less difficult to interpret, and the information is worth the effort, in any case.
