The Second Coming of Thrash..,
By Thrash_Revival (NV) - See all my reviews

..is here! I'm listening to this album right now and I'm reminded of the good 'ol days when thrash metal ruled the scene. Antichrist is without a doubt one of the best thrash albums since 1990. My favorite songs on this one would be the "Dictators of Cruelty", "Thrash Till Death", "Bullets From Hell" and "Heretic." If you're looking for a good thrash album, you should most definitely get this one. No fan of thrash metal should go on without this one.

Awesome cd. Where Metallica whimped out. Destruction continued with the thrash metal assault. I recently ordered Cracked Brain and I'm sure I will not be disappointed.

Sonic German Violence,

With my Thrash hangover just now receding from last year's return, German legends DESTRUCTION have struck again. I would have expected to wait another 6 months or so for these grand old men of Thrash to give us another run at it but lo and behold, the trio have churned out another memorable piece of Metal migraine material. A disc full 11 new tracks, a shot of whiskey and some padded walls to bounce off of; the latter two don't come with the disc but they ought to because DESTRUCTION have lived up to everyone's expectations and created an even better album than the last. Don't ya just love these guys? The Antichrist is exactly what one would anticipate after All Hell Breaks Loose. There is absolutely no let up in fury this time around in case a few of you had the idea that perhaps the bands original members were graying at the temples and considering become a kinder, gentler type of Metal band. In fact, The Antichrist is an even more forceful and thuggish effort and the band's most violently executed to date. The anger behind the music is the method to their madness it seems. An improved, more cohesive production and a stronger emphasis on pure, unchecked aggression is what The Antichrist is all about. A high degree of intensity accompanies most tracks on this disc, among the most virulent being the opener "Thrash Till Death" (only DESTRUCTION could get away with a song title like this!), the very nasty "Nailed To The Cross", "Bullets From Hell", the classic "Godfather Of Slander" and "Creations Of The Underworld". These tracks alone should turn casual DESTRUCTION listeners into hardcore addicts. Ears bleed profusely from violently catatonic riffs, crashing drum slams, and Lord Schmier's hateful shrieks. The man is quite literally at his most psychotic. The riffs that drive this beast are some of DESTRUCTION's best since Infernal Overkill, an album that embodied the true meaning of Thrash guitar! Even the leadwork itself is at its pinnacle and most fans will find a hard time remembering when DESTRUCTION sounded this good. The Antichrist is just a crushing tirade of blistering, vintage Thrash. This album further bolsters the pride I have knowing I was listening to this band's music as far back as 1984. God, I'm old.... One gets the impression that DESTRUCTION were out to prove to the world that last year's comeback was not just a little tap on the shoulder to remind you that they'd returned but a steel pipe bludgeoning designed to send a clear message that DESTRUCTION still dominate the Euro-Thrash scene. There shall be some hefty fighting at the top with KREATOR and SODOM eyeing the throne. What an amazing year from all three German bands who seem to have been aware of each others efforts and were bent on seeing who would turn out the most memorable. So far my vote is with this one.

Complete Destruction,

It is very seldom on a new album that every song is good--this being one of the few exceptions. At least Destruction have stayed to their roots and compiled another thrash album. Great guitars, everything is great for a three member band. These guys are one of the few remaining bands that are still coming out with great records.

Hmm, I just got this and have played it about 10 times (not exaggerated) the first day. It is very very good! New Thrash from Germany. In particular this CD has great application in the gym. For a three piece band they have a thick heavy sound. Not too fast (a positive IMHO), good vocals, and some nice screaming guitar work. Thrash fans should get this...now! Top songs include "Nailed to the Cross", "Dictators of Cruelty", and "Let your mind rot".

I made a blind purchase of this album when I happened to be in a brick and mortar record store (remember those?) on the Tuesday of its release. I had a used copy of "All Hell Breaks Loose," and was impressed that the old Teutonic warlords could still crunch the thrash like they had back in the 80's. My thoughts were "Well, the last album was decent, so either they topped it, or they are going into the crapper." I am here to tell you that NOTHING went into the crapper. The only thing Destruction learned to do was to be even more vicious, dirty, and down-tuned than any of the bands half their age. A statement was made with this album-quality Thrash was not dead, and Destruction was here to serve notice of it. The production from Abyss Studios and good ol' Peter Tagtren is amazingly clear and at the same time amazingly nasty. You can just crank this disc up on a good stereo and literally be swallowed in the cavernous production. I have heard some complaints about the snappy sounding snare drums, but to me it sounds bad-ass, cutting nicely through the swath of chugging and buzzing bass and guitar. Mike just nails his riffs here, big and thunderous tone with razor sharp leads on tracks "Thrash 'til Death" and "Nailed to the Cross." Schmier's bass is very audible, it snakes along with the guitar nicely. Of special note is Schmier's vocals, the man sounds ten times more pissed than he did in his eighties heyday, just listen to "Bullets from Hell" to get an aural picture of what I am trying to convey. This album is easily one of my picks for the top ten of the last decade, and it fits proudly in my collection next to the rest of Destructions catalog.

Best album I've heard in the last 10 years. Destruction are what metal is all about: powerful, fast, heavy, technical, empowering and unsurpassed. Thrash is here.

It's great to have this band back after all those years of long silence. If you love the old and typical Destruction sound. You might be a bit disappointed, but it's undeniable that this is a fantastic Thrash Metal album... I mean this is real Thrash Metal not like sepultura and some other bands that really forgot what Thrash Metal should sound like ! ! !

If you happened to purchase All Hell Breaks Loose, then you already know what to expect here. The album is heavy and thrashin'. I found the guitar riffs a little easier to distinguish than on AHBL. Another winner. The song Thrash Til Death is worth it alone, in my opinion.

This is absolutely horrible. I still can't believe I went out on a limb and bought this. Even a local used c.d. store wouldn't buy it when I tried to sell it. I seriously am considering just throwing it away. I've tried listening to it a few times and just couldn't get thru it-it annoys me that much. I mean fellow country-men Kreator and Sodom blow these clowns out of the water. I think part of my problem with this release is how hard they're trying to have cool sounding song titles and lyrics.
