Listen to other tracks besides After Hours before buying....,

I happen to like this album quite a bit, but for me the attraction is mainly due to the fact that I'm into rap music as well. Not to say that any of the cuts on this album constitute rap per se, but every song seems to have a distinct urban flavor to it--with the notable exception of After Hours. After Hours is without a doubt the signature piece on the album, one of the single most brilliant songs in the hisory of light jazz. You've probably heard it countless times on your favorite light jazz radio station, and once you hear it, it'll be in your head for hours! Absolutely beautiful. But if I had bought The Antidote it expecting every song to have After Hours' easygoing sound and indescribable "coolness", I'd have been sorely disappointed. Viva la RealAudio! Use it, folks; listen to samples before you buy. As I said, I personally like the urban style that IMHO seems to be shared by every other song on the album, so I got the best of both worlds (After Hours plus 8 or 9 other nice tracks). If you're not into the more urban type of light jazz, you may not like the album. So give the non-After-Hours cuts a listen. Me, I couldn't be happier.

Ronnie Jordan's Jazzy debut ...,
By
This review is from: Antidote (Audio CD)
The U.K.'s Ronnie Jordan was an optimistic sensation in the early '90's. His 1992 CD, "The Antidote," played a vital mix of the up-and-coming Hip-hop/Jazz genre. Jordan's melodic talent shines in his debut CD. Smooth rhythyms, syncopatic bass-drum combinations, and hip urban raps tie into Jordan's deep "Antidote." Jordan makes no qualms expressing his guitar playing abilities. His talented fingers rival Norman Brown's in quick, witty notes, and Wes Montgomery-like fluidity. Ronnie Jordan seemed to have a very talented producer, whom he has unfortunately removed from his future CD's. Jazz and Hip-hop listeners will fall for Ronnie Jordan. "The Antidote" is exceptionally good medicine.

I was looking for a Jazz version of Miles Davis' song "So What" that utilized vocals - I didn't find it. I 'stumbled' onto Ronny Jordan's version - and dug it! Clean, crisp, well-structed and performed. Just as you start grooving, the CD is finished. The fastest 46+ minutes on disc! Good job, Ronny and company! (where have I been for the 14 years that this disc has been out? Mars, I guess! How I missed this man and his talent is beyond me!!!) Five stars!

The antidote(after hours) is one of the most refreshing, laid back cuts that I have ever heard. I always cruise when I listen to this tune.

I have been listening to this album ever since it came out,, and it still holds. As a jazzguitarist I remember that I was very curious when I first heard about Ronny Jordan in the beginng of the 90:s. His way of mixing the guitarstyle of all my heroes..like Wes Montgomery,Grant Green George Benson and Kenny Burrell did intrigue me,this combined with hip and heavy dance beats ..Jordans clean sound where he is not afraid of using space(little bit the same way Miles Davis did) and his fantastic sense for rythm and groove makes his music very appealing.,,and he plays all the right notes all the time..and of course I like his rework of Miles "So What".
Jordan kept on doing good albums during the years...although this the first one is the most genuine ,,so far in my opinion. The ones that dig Ronny Jordan might also want to check some of todays more funkier jazzguitarists..like Jimmy Ponder or Peter Bernstein or Greg Skaff

Magnificent,

This is what jazz can be.All the songs still sound fresh after almost 15 years. And what can I say about "after hours"? This song is a staple of any good jazz radio station. That song alone is worth the price of the cd.

Ronnie makes it with a mixture of funky jazz tunes. changing up with mellow mixes. He has a unique style - somewhat reminiscent of marcus miller.

I had "the antidote" on cassette and played it so much I started have problems with the sound. I love the songs of this particular album because the bass really drives the songs and gives them more soul. I've heard other versions of a few of the song on this album and the composition without the driving bass in my opinion are weak. So I was very pleased to have found this particular album.

His debut outing and the sounds of things to come. 5 Stars/ A1 All the way! From "So What" and "After hours"to "Show mean Your Love", there is something uniquely spacial on every cut. I cannot say enough about this guy and his individual take on jazz(acid jazz.) His own style of blending and seamlessly re-interrupting the old and and the new we love (Jazz)with flare, flavour and the funk that just keeps my feet moving and my fingers taping!!! DO NOT HESITATE - JUST GET IT and you will 'Get It'...fast!!!
