5.0 out of 5 stars This CD will get you movin'
I found this CD after doing research on the Mitsubishi commercials with the fun songs in them. I was a little worried only "Start The Commotion" and "Oh La La" would be good songs, but I've listened to the whole CD a few times and like it better each time I hear it. Great dance music! If you're a Fat Boy Slim fan, you'll love this CD. I listen to...

3.0 out of 5 stars A good pick up for Big Beat fans
If you like Fatboy Slim, that's big beat. And the Wiseguys follow suit, and that they do it well helps. I was particularly impressed with the tracks 'Ooh, La La' 'Cowboy '78' 'Start the Commotion' and 'Grabbin Hands' which has serious hip hop roots. They manage to combine good production value along with creative sample selection for a good sound. Granted there...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great groove here......, July 6, 2001

In a world of what seems like a trillion DJ LPs here's one that's worth giving a listen.

"The Antidote" covers a wide variety of beats and grooves ranging from bumpin' club style hits such as "Start The Commotion" (yes that is the song from the Mitsubishi commercial) to chilled out trip hop beats like "Face The Flames".

The use of some super old lounge and jazz samples is great, and the rhymes on cuts 3 & 11 hold their own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Off the chain!, September 5, 2000

I was shopping at a clothing store and the video for "Start the Commotion" was playing on the in-store monitor. I was mesmerized. As soon as I found out who the artist was, I went straight to Amazon.com and bought it. Am I glad I went shopping that day, otherwise I would have went to my grave not knowing about these guys. Every track is tasty, especially the aforementioned one and "We Be the Crew." They do be the crew; and I will proactively search out every offering from this fantastic team.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Different..., September 24, 2001

When I first heard "Start the Commotion" on a Mitsubishi commercial, I fell in love with it. For months I couldn't find out who did that song (lack of fame.) Just a few weeks ago, I heard that the artist was The Wiseguys. I like half of the songs on their cd, but the other half is rap which I don't care for. Buy this CD if your into remix scratching (what I bought it for.) It's still cool.

4.0 out of 5 stars Even before all the TV hype, this CD was hot, April 11, 2002

Yeah, the Wiseguys' songs have been overplayed thanks to numerous TV commercials and movie soundtracks. I had this CD before all the hoopla. I loved it then, and I still love it now. Some CD listeners have complained that only the more danceable songs (e.g., Ooh La La and Start the Commotion) are good. I feel that you have to listen to the whole CD start to finish to really enjoy it. It's a total music experience that varies from downtempto hip-hop to big beat-ish dance music to mellow grooves with interesting samples....but in my book, this is one of the better CDs of its genre. If you like it, also check out Handsome Boy Modeling School.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kickass beats... and variety! (Fatboy + Beasties is right!), December 2, 1999

Wow, was I amazed! There's a great variety of sounds... Fromthe hip-hop style scratching and mixing on Re-introduction, to thecatchy, Fatboy-ish repetition and beats of Ooh La La, to the smooth, relaxing rhymes of We Be the Crew, to the awesome evil loops in Face the flames, this CD is a real winner. There's just an excellent variety of kinds of music, and the catchy beats make it really easy to love. Buy this CD, you will NOT regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Fatboy Slim meets the Beastie Boys", September 14, 1999

A great album to just sit and listen to. Well-crafted beats and loops that just chug along. Faster "big beat" type tunes like "Ohh La La" and "Start the Commotion" rock hard. Slower triphoppy ones like "Search's End" just simmer ol' school funk. Buy this while you can.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good pick up for Big Beat fans, June 25, 2000

If you like Fatboy Slim, that's big beat. And the Wiseguys follow suit, and that they do it well helps. I was particularly impressed with the tracks 'Ooh, La La' 'Cowboy '78' 'Start the Commotion' and 'Grabbin Hands' which has serious hip hop roots. They manage to combine good production value along with creative sample selection for a good sound. Granted there were a few songs to skip over, but the overall mood of fun the fumes from this effort is overpowering. The track 'We Be The Crew' just taunts you into thinking that you should write your own lyrics and flow right along with the beat. This is a good pick up for any fan of Big Beat, or Hip-Hop for that matter.

4.0 out of 5 stars Buying a Mitsubishi or Bud Light? Steer clear of this one..., June 2, 2005
This review is from: Antidote (Audio CD)
Because it's probably not your thing. Apparently, people are buying this album because they liked the song "Ooh La La" or "Start The Commotion" featured in some commercials. Well, that's certainly an "ineffective" way to market an album like this. And it certainly isn't building him a strong fan base for the future. It's English hip-hop of sorts. Touche's style is similar to that of Fatboy Slim, and certainly isn't mainstream radio-play material (at least in America). Some people get so caught up in their "expectations" of what the album should be, that it subsequently clouds the their view of the album (or in this case, they simply bought it by mistake). So with that said, I will continue on with my review as if you're into this kind of music.

Hip-hop in England is very different than it is in America. Traits of darkness, paranoia, money, style and mic presence are taken to the extreme in America's rap music. Well, this album proves, along with other hip-hop albums from the UK, that their style is less uptight and definitely more humorous by our standards. Their style of hip-hop is definitely less serious than what Run-D.M.C. invented back in 1984. It's not a bad thing, it's actually a breath of fresh air. One reason it isn't so serious, is because the album is equally rooted in the British dance scene. Touche actually brings more of a Afrika Bambaataa vibe to the table. My favorite track has got to be "Experience," which track is immaculate. Although there may be a little filler throughout it's 74 minutes in length, there is a lot of exceptional work showcased by Touche (and at a hell of a great price too, 95¢ used, what's up with that!).

This album was released over 7 years ago, and still sounds very fresh. If you're interested in more work by (DJ) Touche, check out his 2002 solo release "Ultraviolet: Journeys By DJ", which is more of a progressive house album/mix. So depending on your tastes, you may like that one too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad, For Now..., September 9, 2001
By
This review is from: Antidote (Audio CD)
Overall, this is a good CD. As everyone has already described it, it's very similar to Fatboy Slim, but I would there's a funkier groove to a lot of the songs. The main question is will you listen to it 5 months from now? There's a lot of hype over this album because of the "Mitsubishi Song" (Start the Commotion) which is shamelessly labeled on the plastic covering the CD. Without the hype, it's still some good fun music you'll be moving to, but I'm afraid many will buy it just for the hype. After all, the CD came out in 1999. The songs were all there before.

Not every song on this CD is like Start the Commotion. There are some slow grooves that might remind you of Black Eyed Peas at times. Some tunes are straight Fatboy Slim mixes while some are very hip hop based. Then there are other tracks that are some great funk slow jams. I personally enjoy the album. Fans of Fatboy Slim will enjoy it as well. Those who buy it just for the "Mitsubishi Song" may want to listen to it to make sure it's their thing. If you're buying it just for the one song, just wait. I'm sure Now 9, 10, 11 or some other compilation will have it.
