Critical Review of Modern Issues,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Antigay Agenda: Orthodox Vision and the Christian Right (Paperback)
It is only through discussions and printed works that both sides of this issue can fully explain their positions and help those of us in the middle understand what are the underlying issues and points of contention. Without inflammatory rhetoric...the learned among us can have true discussions about the impact of both sides of this issue. It is only by reading this type of book that one can come away with a better understanding of the nature of the underlying issues related to homosexuality and the modern Church's opposition to it. Anyone who considers himself or herself to be against homosexuality would do well to truly research this subject and not just rely on theologians who would have you beleive that while the Bible calls for us to "love one another," that this call to action does not include homosexuals. This book will help one's understanding of how homosexuals view the Church and would be very helpful to all.

TELLS THE TRUTH!,
This review is from: The Antigay Agenda: Orthodox Vision and the Christian Right (Hardcover)
My husband and I were thrilled to see this truth telling novel here up for sale. Its an unbelieveably good book. It exposes the anti-gay agenda and defines how the so called "christian" right oppresses others.

The Religious Right Revealed,
This review is from: The Antigay Agenda: Orthodox Vision and the Christian Right (Paperback)
This is a shocking expose of the conspiratorial networking of a broad array of religious fanatics who are striving to deny a significant portion of our citizenry their rights as human beings simply because of their desire to practice their individual and personal sexual preferences. This is a who's who of the personalities behind the multitude of America's extremist and cultic Christian fronts. It's a handy reference guide to those groups who have a hidden final solution for their intended victims.

This is a wonderful work of research. Herman manages to present scads of information in a mere 200 pages and still remain enjoyably readable. Her overview of the history of Christianity Today's construction of homosexuality is particularly delightful - who would have ever thought that America in 1958 was overrun by sex mania? Buy it now. :)

Excellent exposé of the radical theocratic right,
By Jonathon "jpopphan" (Smyrna, GA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Antigay Agenda: Orthodox Vision and the Christian Right (Paperback)
Thank you, Ms. Herman for writing this excellent book. The anti-gay agenda pursued by many religious conservatives deserves to be exposed for what it is: a campaign of hate, lies and deceit.
The truth is that while there is no "homosexual agenda to destroy the American family", there is indeed a theocratic, anti-gay agenda to destroy gay and lesbian families. The organized effort by groups such as those mentioned in this work are a true threat not only to gay and lesbian civil rights but the civil rights of all Americans, as these same groups also strongly fight against reproductive choice, birth control, sex education, etc. While I can appreciate that some people base their anti-gay hate on scriptural sources, we must all understand that no one has the right to force their religion onto others or to demand that others conform to one religion's ideas of morality. If homosexuality makes you uncomfortable, or if you are taught to see it as a "sin" then there is a simple solution: don't have sex or become romantically involved with someone of your own sex! Otherwise shut up and leave the rest of us alone for a change, eh?

Rather than reading this book, suggest you read the Bible. There is no 'anti-gay plot'--but there are a few of us out there who believe that the Bible on the subject means exactly what it says--homosexual activity is sinful (and harmful to the person practicing it). I don't know why you would call this 'hate'. Which is truly love--letting someone dance in the street in the path of incoming cars, or warning them that they could get killed like this and that there is another way? See 1st Corinthians chapter 6. The Corinthians, as many in the Roman empire had many homosexuals in society very mainstreamed and instead of demanding they be stoned to death, as per Mosaic law, or other 'hate' Paul showed how they could get out of the harmful behaviour (as could the adulterers, fornicators and other sinners)and have a 'new life in Christ.'
As another reviewer has stated, not just narrow-minded white Southern Protestant males who voted for Bush read the Bible this way--there is unanimous agreement on this in all churches who are not re-defining the Bible, that is Catholics, Greek and Russian Orthodox, black American churches, African Episcopalians..

Inane,

Strange how she pigeon-holes the dispensational-premillenalist christian-right as being the anti-gay force in this nation. As an amillenial Roman Catholic who is equally opposed to the anti-human homosexual agenda...I am offended and consider myself the subject of discrimination! I'm sure that my Eastern Orthodox and traditional Mainstream Protestant bretheren concur
