5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Version of Antigone
Antigone is one of my all-time favorite plays, and I picked up the Brecht version because, well, it's Bertolt Brecht and it's Antigone. I was not disappointed: the ideas and dilemmas remain as deep and relevant as they have ever been, and the language is lyrical. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Version of Antigone, August 10, 2011
This review is from: Antigone - In a Version by Bertolt Brecht (Paperback) (Paperback)
Antigone is one of my all-time favorite plays, and I picked up the Brecht version because, well, it's Bertolt Brecht and it's Antigone. I was not disappointed: the ideas and dilemmas remain as deep and relevant as they have ever been, and the language is lyrical. It's an easy read--not simplistic, but so well written that each line draws you to the next and the next. I find this adaptation more pleasant to read than any direct translation of Sophocles. For that reason, as an English teacher, I prefer to teach this version. I highly recommend it for anyone who loves the issues presented in Antigone but has trouble getting through modern direct translations of Sophocles.

This review is from: Antigone - In a Version by Bertolt Brecht (Paperback) (Paperback)
One in a trilogy, the cat fights in this book between Antigone and her sister should keep you interested for the hour it take to read. for a better understanding of Sophocles wisdom, get the whole trilogy.
