More About the Author

Hi, and welcome! You would probably only be reading this if you are interested in my beloved adopted country and home, Antigua & Barbuda.

I have lived here for over 20 years and still marvel at it's beauty, tranquility, culture and colour. The only reason I leave is to see family in my birthland of England, and also where my two gorgeous horses are kept. They are both competing horses and so this little tropical island is not suitable for them.

Instead of horses, I keep around nine dogs in Antigua, who have come to me from various paths and are loved by all. I try and ride the horses available here and compete in the one or two local shows a year. Of course, I swim after work in the warm Caribbean seas, or work out in the gym, practice yoga, and love to walk and explore the more unknown areas of Antigua & Barbuda.

Talking of which, I am part-owner/director of the very popular Antigua Rainforest Canopy Tour. Set in 12 acres of lush native forest in the lower southwest of the island alongside Fig Tree Drive, this is an exciting 12 zip line course, high above a gorge, with tree houses and a great challenge course.

Our sister isle is also somewhere where I get to as often as possible, it is simply divine, pure peace!

Yes, the book needs updating and I have agreed worldwide rights to a new publishing company but understandably with the economic situation as it is, we will have to wait a little whilst I recompile all the comprehensive information within my book, and also for the economic climate to improve - then I hope to entice you to this gorgeous part of the world!

This review is from: The Antigua and Barbuda Companion (Paperback)
If I could travel with only one guidebook on Antigua and Barbuda, this would be the one. The author covers activities from the frivolous to the serious; from nightlife, Carnival, and Sailing Week to environmental awareness, and the local humane society. In addition to the breath of topics covered, the author has done an outstanding job in capturing the flavor of the island in photography, commendable consideration given to the inclusion of many locals in context and throughout the contents.

As one who spent most of my formative years in Antigua before leaving 35 years ago, this book has brought back many old memories of traditional customs - Cricket p75, and Long Ghost p88; as well as introduced new activities I was unaware of such as Ballooning p82 and motor racing p144. Over the past 15 years my family and I have made more than 10 visits to Antigua, I was unaware of motor racing or that horse racing was still a big activity on Antigua. (We have not made it to Barbuda as yet). If limited buying only one travel guide on Antigua and Barbuda, this one stands out, there is something for everyone.
