This review is from: Ioannis Antiocheni fragmenta quae supersunt omnia (Corpus Fontium Historiae Byzantinae) (Greek Edition) (Hardcover)
This translation of John of Antioch is a boon for people who wish to read an important source on the later Roman Empire and Early Byzantine period but can't read Greek - like me.
Unfortunately the book only contains fragments, though often substantial fragments, of John's now lost History. The fragments cover the period 1200 BC - 516 AD. There are additional disputed fragments that aren't included in this book. However, the fragments of John's History contained in this book are considerable - providing all the "undisputed" fragments and which contain much valuable source material. I strongly recommend this book to all who love late Roman and/or early Byzantine history. |
