Book Description

September 5, 2002
This book provides the reader with a comprehensive overview of the Antiphospholipid syndrome. One of the most important advances in rheumatology and connective tissue diseases of the last decade. It provides an explanation for many previously undefined conditions with no clear pathogenesis encompassing all subspeculations in internal medicine as well as obstetrics. Clotting problems leading to strokes and myocardial infarctions (in younger people) as well as a large variety of other syndromes such as chorea, hyproadrenalism, pulmonary problems are now being understood.

Editorial Reviews

Review

M. Bijl, G.C.M. Kallenberg
...is a very valuable source for those who want to have an overview of the great progress which has been made in fundamental research, the increasing pathophysiological insights and the current treatment modalities in APS. It is particularly useful for researchers and of value for clinicians dealing with patients with APS and the various disease manifestations these patients can develop.

This review is from: The Antiphospholipid Syndrome II: Autoimmune Thrombosis (Pt. 2) (Hardcover)
I am an APS patient. Although this recently published book is written for the medical profession, it is very useful to any APS patient. It contains more in-depth information than any patient guide written for a layperson could possibly provide. It also provides numerous citations to other sources in its extensive bibliographies. I purchased it for myself so that I can be as educated as possible about this life-threatening condition and have let my physician borrow it so that he can be better informed about its many manifestations and possible complications. Although this book is expensive, it is well worth the price and I view it as a necessary medical expense.
