The book is a great source of information for all aspects of Sweetheart collecting! It covers WWI and WWII mostly. American is the main focus with a little British and Homefront thrown in. It is an invaluable source for those just starting out or a serious collector but there are some problems. The pictures are prolific BUT some so small you can hardly tell what is what. Some pins are misidentified or put into the wrong category. That does not detract from the help it will give you, mostly because there are only three guide books on the market that deal with sweetheart jewelry. The price guide is way, way off and some of the information must be taken with a grain of salt. I would say buy it if you collect but if you want to know prices, go to eBay or a militaria fair and talk to the real experts. Mr. Snider needs to research better, proof his books better and really focus on sweethearts. If this is supposed to be a book on sweetheart jewelry, leave out the playing cards, posters, stickers, banners, pillow covers and all the other junk he jams in this book. If that stuff was not there, the photos would be better and so would the help the book offers.

This wonderful, comprehensive book, is a true joy to not only read but have in your collection. It affords easy access to a wide variety of sweetheart jewelry - the homefront equivilant of medals and patches - with concise, easy to read explanations of each piece. The pricing guide at the end of the book is especially useful when buying - or selling - a piece of history. A MUST read and own book for any sweetheart jewelry collector!

UPDATE: JUNE 2011- WOW SO SELLER (EC7 Enterprises) FINALLY sent the book to me, after absolutely NO Emails sent back to me, which was VERY RUDE,and ONLY after I filled a claim against them with Amazon! HORRIBLE HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE- I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING FROM THEM UNLESS YOU POSSIBLY WANT TO PLAY A WAITING GAME FOR THE PRODUCT YOU PURCHASE FROM THEM, FIRST HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH AMAZON, BUT SINCE MARCH I HAVE HAD A TOTAL OF 3 BAD SELLERS ON AMAZON, INCLUDING THIS ONE...BEWARE!!!!

ORIGINAL POST: I purchased a book from seller (EC7 Enterprises) on March 24, 2011, it is now April 6, 2001 and I still have NOT received my book, it is still "being processed" in my account -AND- the seller will NOT respond to any of my previous (3+) emails asking whats going on. I badly need the book I ordered, and have been asking seller to let me know what is going on & if they do not have the book, to let me know this information and cancel my order so I can go elsewhere- still no response from the seller....I just don't understand why everyone else has gotten their orders "in record time" and the seller wont even respond to my many pleading and begging emails to simply let me know what the heck the deal is??! As your PAYING customer, I just want AND DESERVE some communication and customer service PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.Thank you!

If you are looking for a reference guide, a price guide, or information on many of the items on the cover, this book is NOT for you.

The sections, such as they are, tend to be one page of text, much of which is repeated chapter after chapter almost verbatim. The pictures are arranged in rows with little information in the caption - and the price guide is simply a two-page cross-reference in the back of the book.

The longest section relates to paper collectibles; handkerchiefs, banners, and pillows also have individual chapters.

This is the second edition; perhaps the third will be the charm.

This book has over 200 color photographs of jewelry, compacts, fabric and paper collectibles, and book shows the human side of war via patriotic mementos exchanged by men and women separated by historic events. The jewelry related chapters cover bracelets, compacts, earrings, pins, lockets, necklaces and pendants, rings, along with special sections on Wasp (Women's Airforce Service Pilot), and the Seabee (Construction Batallion) items. The main focus relates to American jewelry, and features a few British items as well. The descriptions are concise and easy to read.

I'm not crazy about having chapters on paper and fabric collectibles included in a book with a title meant to be about jewelry. The book also covers greeting cards, playing cards, postcards, pillow covers, handkerchiefs, banners, and flags. It seems the title of the book is misleading as to the actual subject matter within the cover. Otherwise, Antique Sweetheart Jewelry is a good book about military collectibles from American's past and one of just a few books on the subject.

It is clear from the level of detail and the care taken with the photographs that this book was a labor of love. Highly recommend this book.
