I've watched them, those lovely you know how it's going to end but you watch them anyway movies. This book contains stories that will give you the warm fuzies, the total weird outs and most important many roads to the answers to questions that you stumble upon as your mind wanders at night. There are fairytales(The River Boy and Gingerbread), ghost story maybe (The Haunted Mech Suit), science fiction(Fiddle), horror(again Gingerbread and The Crawlspace of the World) and the best twist to robots taking over story I have seen so far. There is even an awesome poem tucked in for good measure. And this is not even close to a complete list of what you will find. But, no matter which story tickles your fancy it will stick with you and it will make you think.
I offer just one piece of order advice. Please read the last story last. It truly closes the over all mood of the book so well. Then, again, I'm not your ruling overlord so do as you please.

If you are even remotely interested in fantasy you'll be well pleased with this collection. There were times I liked a story so much Id accost a family member or lover and get them to sit down and read a story Id just finished. While they did Id have the joy of sharing a wonderful story with the pain of book withdrawal. But that was ok because I hadn't actually finished the book. Now I have I wish I'd spun it out a little longer. You lucky thing. You have it all ahead of you.

Tim Pratt creates characters and worlds that consistently delight and surprise me. I've spent a good deal of my life as a script reader (among other things) and at one time seriously wondered if there was such a thing as an original thought. Mr Pratt most decidedly puts an end to my cynicism and makes me believe again in make-believe.

Pratt's short stories are wonderful little gems consisting of great characters and even better world building. I'm still working my way through but in the first two thirds of the book I've yet to come across a story I don't like. Unlike other short story collections this one is very consistent.

I never read short stories. After all, what can you say in a few hundred words, and why care about characters you will only see once?

Tim Pratt proved me wrong. Every single one of these is a day full of thinking re-thinking and enjoying in memory all over again. Go, read, and quick!

Tim Pratt not much I can say that has not been said. He is a talented author and this book focuses on some of his earlier short stories. I enjoyed them very much. Now Tim if you read these reviews PLEASE how about another Marla Mason book?
