About the Artist

Betsy Bowen
Betsy is an artist, illustrator and award-winning author of nine books. Her books and popular woodcut prints appear in galleries and stores throughout the country. She has a flute segment on Track 15.

Michael Monroe
Michael is a singer/songwriter with five other (solo) albums to his credit. He has performed in venues throughout the country and has a large following in Minnesota. He was nominated several years ago for Indie Album of the Year by the Minnesota Music Academy. In June 2002 he appeared in concert with Michael McDonald (formerly with Doobie Brothers), Bernie Leadon (formerly of The Eagles), Grammy winning songwriter Jon Vezner, and Kathy Mattea. Michael is on vocals, guitar, flute, percussion. He engineered the album and recorded it at his log cabin, solar-powered studio.

Maryl Skinner
Maryl Skinner, who wrote the melodies and lyrics for the album, hasn’t won any awards that she can remember. But she did receive a grant for songwriting in the previous millennium. She has been writing songs since the early '80s. Since 1995 she has written original material (songs and sketches of a different genre) for a trio that she has performed with in Minnesota. As part of that group she was a guest on the Morning Show of Minnesota Public Radio. (Maryl is also on vocals, percussion).

Maryl, Betsy and Michael live in the Minnesota woods near the North Shore of Lake Superior, where they work and play.

This is an enjoyable bunch of music for children. Anyone looking for music for kids with an environmental edge would enjoy this.

I was amazed at the light-hearted music and lyrics, and how they capture the spirit of Minnesota's North Shore. I saw Maryl Skinner several years ago when she was the lead of a group called "Debbie", and realized then she was a star to be born. Michael Monroe's vocals are a pure delight, as are all the backup instrumentals. Anyone who has kids, or anyone who doesn't have kids for that matter, should definitely add this CD to their collection.
