Biography

His real name is Rodolfo Páez, like his father. When he was a child people called him "Rodolfito" (in Spanish, an affectionate form of "Rodolfo") to distinguish him from his father. With the passage of time, this nickname became just "Fito", and that is where his stage name came from.

He formed Staff, his first band when he was 13. In 1977, he played in El Banquete with Rubén Goldín and Jorge… Read more in Amazon's Fito Paez Store

3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been a LOT better...., February 25, 2003
This review is from: Antologia (Audio CD)
This is quite a decent introduction to Fito's work, especially for you gringos who haven't yet had the pleasure of experiencing this magnificent artist, but it is definitely NOT a good Fito Paez compilation... where is "Cable A Tierra"? where is "Cadáver Exquisito"? what about "Track Track" or "Rumba del Piano"?... and what a real SIN it is to have not included "Yo Vengo A Ofrecer Mi Corazón"!!! There is another "Antología" record published by EMI, which is a very good overview of Fito's earlier years... I would recommend buying it in addition to this Wea International "Antología".

On the good side, I am delighted to see "Delirium Tremens" in this package... this is simply one of the best rock songs in any language, of any time... it is Fito's music and the lyrics from spanish singer/songwriter/poet/god Joaquín Sabina, who is also essential listening to anyone interested in hispanic music. He did a whole album with Fito called "Enemigos Intimos", which includes "Delirium..." and "Llueve Sobre Mojado" (both in "Antología") and other great songs from the collaboration of two of the greatest artists in the world... it's a must-have! Also, "La Rueda Mágica" is a true gem co-written and performed in collaboration with Charly García. Fito introduced me to Joaquín and Charly, and I must say if you like Fito, you will surely LOVE these two other icons... buy Charly's "Obras Cumbres" as well (I recommend purchasing Volumes I and II separately, instead of the 2-disc set, as it contains 2 or 3 songs less than the single volumes).

I don't like the way the songs are distributed: at first, it seems as though they are ordered chronologically, but then they are thrown in together in a way which makes it seem a bit chaotic. What's up with that? Besides, there are enough tracks from "Tercer Mundo" and "El Amor Después Del Amor" for you to notice that it is better to buy the whole album (they are arguably Fito's two greatest albums), and instead of putting about 80% of each one on the compilation, leave room for great songs from the 80's... I see only "11 y 6", "Giros", "Ciudad de Pobres Corazones"... (again, you MUST buy the EMI "Antología").

But in the end, there is beauty ("Brillante Sobre El Mic", "Dar Es Dar", "Un Vestido Y Un Amor", "11 y 6"), feeling ("Ciudad de Pobres Corazones", "Tumbas de la Gloria", "El Amor Después Del Amor", "Al Lado del Camino"), a rocking good time ("Delirium Tremens", "Es Sólo Una Cuestión De Actitud", "El Diablo De Tu Corazón", "A Rodar Mi Vida")... and greatness which can also be described as FITO ("Y Dale Alegría A Mi Corazón", "Mariposa Tecknicolor", "Del 63"). Enjoy, but don't stop here... there is definitely MUCH more worth listening from this artist and his friends (García, Sabina, Aloras, Calamaro, etc.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Exelente ... pero pudo ser mejor, May 27, 2005

This review is from: Antologia (Audio CD)

5.0 out of 5 stars Antología de primera, February 15, 2003
