5.0 out of 5 stars What this is and what it isn't
First, there is no false advertising of this product. It *IS* a book of Anton Chekhov's plays but it is not a *complete* book of his plays and short stories. This book contains four of Chekhov's major plays: The Sea Gull, Uncle Vanya, The Three Sisters and The Cherry Orchard. 3.0 out of 5 stars A lot of Chekhov is here - but a lot ain't!
Basically I picked this book up hoping that it would have the hard-to-find play, "Wild Honey," the closest Chekhov ever came to being Noel Coward. Not here! Ivanov - not here! The Bear - Not Here! While the essays are here and several insightful writings - to call this book "THE PLAYS" is an utter falsehood, not when there is so much missing.

This book contains four of Chekhov's major plays: The Sea Gull, Uncle Vanya, The Three Sisters and The Cherry Orchard. If you are studying Chekhov, Russian Literature or are an actor, you will find the footnotes and essays particularly helpful in fleshing out the meanings behind particular scenes or even a character's objective. You'll need to look elsewhere for The Bear, The Proposal, Ivanov and Wild Honey but there is merit in this particular collection.
