Book Description

Can we change our destiny? The answer, according to the gods of Rome, is no. Nona spins her wheel and our fates are sealed within the thread that runs through her fingers; Decima measures the thread, determining length of our lives, and when our time on Earth is over, Morta’s shears cut the thread sending us to the Elysian Fields. It is as it should be. Until an arrogant, drunken god hurls his trident at a tiny, inhabited island instead of a lifeless rock, causing a cataclysmic crisis on Olympus.

In part 3 of the Pello Island Quartet, we learn Antonia’s story. As a girl, Antonia was rejected by her father and abused by her brothers. She learned to take care of herself, and when her father agreed to a marriage between Antonia and a sadistic man, Antonia murdered her husband on their wedding day, leading to her incarceration on Pello Island.

As Antonia waits for a new body on Mount Olympus, she and a mortal named Janus grow close. Janus works for the goddesses as a go-between. He helps the islanders get settled in their new bodies in hopes of redeeming himself for a terrible mistake he made while imprisoned on Pello Island, where he also harbored an unrequited love for Antonia.

Now, Janus’ sweet affection has wrought a change in Antonia. They spend as much time together as they can, growing deeper in love, and hoping the goddesses will never find a body for Antonia. Alas, they do, and when the goddesses inform Antonia that they have found the perfect place for her, she weeps, knowing she will never see Janus again.

After a tearful goodbye, she is sent to Ireland in the 18th century. She wakes up in the home of an old man. The body she inhabits has been badly beaten and it takes days for Antonia to recover. During that time, she learns that the body had belonged to a woman named Magda. Magda had been in love with an outlaw named Baylor, a fearsome rogue who found her with his brother, Kyran, and in a fit of jealous rage, beat her. Kyran then took Magda to the home of his uncle. When Antonia is well enough to travel, Kyran takes her to a village hoping Baylor will never see her again as Baylor wanted her dead.

The peace Antonia craves soon becomes a reality in the small village until one day, Baylor passes by and sees her, and his rage upon learning she still lives, threatens to destroy her idyllic new life.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Antonia is not your typical vapid heroine. This isn't the first book Antonia makes an appearance in -- but this is the second book I've read about her exploits in. If you haven't read the other Pello Island books I recommend going back to read them before you devour this one. The Pello Island books are a great melding of the present day and history -- and if that's what you like to read, you really should look no further. I guarantee you'll be satisfied."

From the Author

I've always loved a good historical love story. I also love to see a character metamorphosis through love. Antonia had a terrible start in life. With the exception of one good man, all she has known is fear and heartache. I wanted to give her something good in her life, and I adored Janus. He was a good man who also had a bad start. These two seemed made for each other.

But, as I said about Darius, I also like a bad boy. Baylor, though, isn't lovable. He's mean and angry. His brother, Kyran, is a boy with potential who has been raised by Baylor and feels an allegiance to him despite Baylor's actions. With such a variety of characters, I truly enjoyed writing Antonia Pello Island 3.

This is a great series for summer -- and Antonia is not your typical vapid heroine. I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

Before Reading:
I was quite excited about reading Antonia Pello Island because of the introduction to Antonia in Darius.

Plot:
When the Gods realized they forgot all about Antonia they work quick to get her into a body. Antonia having been on Mount Olympus for hundreds of years has fallen in love with Janus. Now she's destined to head back to Earth to have her child and fulfill her destiny.
When Antonia wakes up in Ireland bruised and beaten she knows she's alive again. Having help from two men she gets herself back on her feet and a house over her head. When her husband gives word that he's coming to the safe house she's living in his brother takes her away to his home town to keep her safe. Building a house and a reputation Antonia is more than relieved to live finally be safe to raise her son Brian.
Something though is going terribly wrong on Mount Olympus because the Gods are losing their powers and can no longer see Antonia's future. When the shadow of a threat looms over Antonia's head with no knowledge of what it is they head to warn Antonia. When Antonia's murderous husband shows up trying to rape her Antonia kills him and thinks the threat is over. When a town party leads to Antonia's death the Gods realize they are making more mistakes and Antonia has paid the price.

When Janus thinks of a plan to get Antonia out of her depression they head to more modern times with one month to enjoy together. When the month is over Antonia is forever gone from Janus and he is left to suffer his endless burden alone.

Characters:
Antonia: I think that the time Antonia spent on Mount Olympus changed her a lot. She's less angry and full of pain.
