First, in the interest of full disclosure, I don't have this version of the recordings. I bought this music as single CDs and even at that price, it was well worth it. If you buy this complete set you have the advantage of owning it all and without breaking your wallet or purse.

The music itself is a revelation. Most Vivaldi fans and fans of sacred vocal music know of Vivaldi's great Gloria RV589. His Magnificat RV611 has wide circulation too. The revelation comes with not only the large volume of works in the collection but the consistantly high level found throughout. There are so many beauties among these works that it is safe to grab any CD from the set and know you will stumble into something good.

Next marvel is the high quality of performance throughout. There is no lagging or weak spots anywhere to be found. Intonation, tone quality, noiseless recording, well selected tempi, blend of all instruments and voices are all top notch. Don't just take my word for it. These works received critical acclaim when first released and there is no reason for their stars to fade with time. It would also take such a monumental effort to attempt to best these recordings that I think it is safe to say this won't be bettered for a long time, if ever.

Finally, the soloists are great. Robert King favors a lighter and sweeter tone from his soloists and that is a good thing. I don't believe operatic showiness is the appropriate style for sacred music and I'm glad King agrees. The result is music that tickles the ear and never overwhelmes the listener. This is great music, very well performed and recorded offered at a great price. You won't be disappointed.

Test of a little meeting. When Antionio Vivaldi 1741 died in Vienna, he left a stately spiritual work. A large part of these compositions which were not sighted yet or still not authorized for the publication to this day was sighted only approx. 90 years ago in which one knows, the Vivaldi still had set many further spiritual works to music. The spiritual work contains a variety of compositions to Latin Messlyrics, Psalmlyrics, hymns, motets and the received Juditha Triumphanes. Robert King succeeds in an extremely colorful, vigorous and nevertheless deeply hearty religious account of the known works Vivaldis with this Complete Sacred Music . Conductor, choir, orchestra and soloists have taken the excellent sacrale music of the great master almost 13 hour music to the sounds on 11 CDs here, altogether. Ce coffret est un cadeau des Dieux. Robert King, ses musiciens, ses solistes dont la merveilleuse Carolyn Sampson sont tout simplement touchés par la Grāce ; le casting est prodigieux, les enregistrements sont techniquement excellents et les choix rythmiques le sont tout autant ; onze disques que j'ai écouté longtemps en boucle, tant ils sont prenants. Le Lauda Jerusalem donne des frissons garantis ; le Judith Triomphans est lumineux ! Cette intégrale donne un air désuet et vieillot à tout ce que j'ai entendu chez les autres : je ne donnerai pas de noms pour ne pas me montrer désagréable . Un'edizione straordinariamente bella: cantanti e cori splendidi, orchestra e solisti assolutamente precisi e mai monotoni. Sicuramente l'edizione più completa della musica sacra di Vivaldi, avendo King incluso nell'integrale anche le "varianti" di alcune opere (tipo il Magnificat) che mancano nell'opera omnia di Vittorio Negri (distribuita dalla Philips).
La ripresa del suono risulta sempre accuratissima, tutti i cd restituiscono all'ascoltatore un perfetto scenario sonoro.
E allora perché solo quattro stelle? Perché dal punto di vista editoriale il box è veramente deludente: ogni cd è contenuto in una custodia di cartone, le esegesi sono raccolte in un unico booklet di mediocre leggibilità.
Per una registrazione di questa importanza e con quello che costa il cofanetto, si doveva e si poteva fare molto di più: ad esempio, creare un box più largo ed inserire all'interno i cd dell'edizione in jewel-case.

It's very nice number of 6 , because STABAT MATER is wonderful.
and this is nice price at US amazon, because US$150 in Japan!
