Book Description

The Mackay's scholarly book has been found to be one of the best regional insect guides available. This book stands out from the rest in that it is student friendly. Most regional entomological books are written for the specialist. It is equally useful to a myrmecologist, an entomologist and the entomology or ecology student. Most of the other ant books available are too technical or written in such a way that they are useless for a student or a non-specialist.

3.0 out of 5 stars poor and suspiciously selective scholarship, August 5, 2003

This review is from: Ants of New Mexico: (Hymenoptera : Formicide) (Hardcover)
Perhaps the most conspicuous ants in all of New Mexico are the harvester ants that build large mounds and clearings. Some of the potentially most important are the fire ants. One book was published on the former in 1998, another on the latter in 2000. Neither work was mentioned or cited in this monograph though the authors were well aware of both. As if hoping to add two more titles to a papal Index Librorum Prohibitorum, they slighted an author who they perceive as a competitor. There is no other explanation for denying readers a chance to refer to those other references.
