4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun, but can be frustrating for little ones
I purchased this game (and others) as a Christmas present for my daycare kids this year. We opened it today and spent a long time all playing it on the kitchen floor. I had 2 & 3 yr olds and 9 yr olds (and me!) all playing. The very youngest ones got a little frustrated but I think with some practice they'll get it. They all still had fun with it and didn't want to...

Considering how few multi-player games exist for very young children, "Ants in the Pants" is a boon for parents. Unfortunately, it may be more fun for parents than for the youngest kids.

Making the plastic ants jump into the pants is fun, but my three year old son found it frustrating, getting no ants in after many minutes of trying. But he was dogged after I encouraged him to practice more. (It's difficult to assist kids in learning how to apply just the right pressure to control the jump of the ant.) After a while he got one in, but by that time he was mentally fried. Since then he has shown little interest in the game.

I personally find the game fun, so it's disappointing that my son doesn't. Obviously, you're mileage will vary. My advice is that it might be a better game for kids four and a half and older.

The game is fairly well made and the ants virtually indestructable. Other than the fact that you can lose the small ants, the game should last a while.

Considering the inexpensive price, it's worth a try. If all else fails and the kids bail, you and the Mrs. can play.

I bought this game for my 4-year-old nephew. My sis ter and I had this game when we were little, so I figured that my nephew would enjoy it, too.

Things sure have changed! That carboard dog thing that goes in the pants made it almost impossible to get the ants to go in the pants, so I ditched that. The ants are also not very "flippable". The overall quality of the game was much better 20 years ago! :)

All in all, a waste of money and I do not suggest it.

I bought this for my almost-4 son, as he sometimes gets frustrated when he can't play the games his 6-year old sister plays. He had trouble making the ants "hop" up, though, and so did I! The 6 year old will play it, though, except she has no one to play it with given my ant-deficiencies.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ants have lost their jump, October 23, 2003

This is a classic game that still has concept appeal, however cheap materials is ruining the effect. We played this game as kids and had loads of fun. Bought it for my 4yr old, and found the game more trying due to the cheap plastic of the ants. The olden day ants were made of a harder plastic yet still flexible to pop in. Today's ants are thinner plastic and bend more easily, making them get out of shape with normal pressure and then they don't pop up , so the game is trying. You have to exert just the right amount of pressure to pop the ant and not squash him. We have tried on several occasions and with different individuals, with the same results. However, the appeal is still there, so when my daughter(4 yrs) who has a lighter hand and makes a score when no one else does, it's immediate delight. But even her lighter touch is not sufficient to get all the ants in without the ants becoming distorted. I would say to the toymakers use a little more umph in the plastic on the ants and you'll easily revive a classic game. The other downfall is the dog's suspenders do not fix into the box while assembled. So setup and takedown is required with each game.

They all still had fun with it and didn't want to put it away. I think this toy is great for working on their eye/hand coordination and problem solving. They also had to use some teamwork to retrieve each other's misses.

Since we got it today I can't say much about the durability. The bottom is plastic and the top is cardboard. The cardboard is thick, but I can see it deteriorating over time.. especially with a daycare!

Overall I think this is one of those great simple games that every kid should get to experience.

1.0 out of 5 stars "No Ants-in-the-Pants"1, November 24, 2002

We got this game for my son for Christmas. He'll be 6 in January. He has great difficulties getting the ants in the dog's pants. To be honest, I do too. I think he's played with it about 3 - 5 times within this past year. We used to love this game when we were kids! I think the cheap cardboard conastruction of the dog and cheap plastic contruction of the
ants fosters these difficulties. Now it sits on top of his closaet shelf. Frustration keeps him from wanting to play. How times have changed.

We bought this for our daughter when she was younger. It was too frustrating. The ants are not made like they once were and it is near impossible to get them into the pants. We would cheat for her and pretend they went in after a long while of trying. Even we could not get them in. Plus the material is so cheesy that they break very easily. Save your money and buy a better game instead.

I bought this toy at a garage sale and my some really likes it. He has no trouble getting the ants in the pants - for the most part. He loves trying to flick them in. It's been great for teaching him about taking turns. Sometimes, he even plays with it by himself.

I played this when I was young so I thought my 2 1/2 year old would enjoy it too. She got to pick which color she wanted to be, and we counted how many ants to get into the pants. It took a little practice, but she got plenty of ants in and had soooo much fun. We really had a great time.
