5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling & Relevant!!!, October 22, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Anubis Oracle: A Journey into the Shamanic Mysteries of Egypt (Paperback)
I have eagerly awaited this treasure to arrive and am not disappointed. I have been searching for this "Egyptian vibe" since 1986 with Murry Hope's Cartouche cards. Various tarot decks tried to capture the magic, yet fall short. Then came the "holy grail" of Egyptian divination-Athon Veggi's "Book of Doors" in 1996. The artwork and colors were a little disappointing, however. The Anubis Oracle fulfills all hopes.

Egyptian Magic is lost in the sands of time. Yet, some writings have been translated and the images endure. Its true, this is reconstruction mysticism with a "new age" slant. It is the Egypt I have always imagined. Indeed, it lasted 5000+ years. Most of these images survived and are just as universal today! This may be the closest thing to the origins of the tarot there is. A historic achievement, indeed.

The colors are bright and warm. Children can easily connect with the cards. The archetypes are potent and soothing. Perhaps this deck will open the doorway for a new generation to spend hours in the Egyptian wing at their local museum. Educational and empowering!

5.0 out of 5 stars Egyptian mythology meets the Major Arcana., July 30, 2010
This review is from: The Anubis Oracle: A Journey into the Shamanic Mysteries of Egypt (Paperback)
Nicki Scully and Linda Star Wolf draw inspiration on the Egyptian Mythology to create a 35 cards oracle, nicely illustrated by Kris Waldherr. It consists of one Significator card, 22 God cards, 4 Elemental cards, and 8 Special cards.

The cards in this oracle are difficult to handle due to their size, bigger than the standard sized tarot. They are bordered blue, numbered and named in white at the top with key words in white at the bottom, descriptive of each card.

Cards 0 to 21 relate very closely to the 22 cards of the Major Arcana in Tarot as follow:

0. The Dove - 0. The Fool
1. Nekbet-Mother-Mut - I. The Magician
2. Nephthys - II. The High Priestess
3. Isis - III. The Empress
4. Khnum - IV. The Emperor
5. Sphinx - V. The Hierophant
6. Sobek & Horus - VI. The Lovers
7. Sekhmet - VII The Chariot
8. Ma'at - VIII. Strength
9. Thoth - IX. The Hermit
10. Khepera - X. Wheel of Fortune
11. Bast - XI. Justice
12. Anubis - XII. The Hanged Man
13. Osiris - XIII. Death
14. Hathor - XIV. Temperance
15. Set - XV. The Devil
16. Wadjet - XVI. The Tower
17. Sothis - XVII. The Star
18. Khonsu - XVIII. The Moon
19. Amun-Ra - XIX. The Sun
20. Ptah - XX. Judgment
21. Nut and Geb - XXI. The World

Cards 22 to 25 relate to the four elements (fire, air, water and earth) representative on the suits of the Minor Arcana in Tarot. Cards I to VIII, labeled in roman numerals, are special combinations of the "Major Arcana".

Waldherr's Egyptian imagery is stunning in this deck, which make me feel slightly disappointed that the creators of this deck didn't go for a full 78 cards tarot deck, and instead the opted to create an "oracle" version. Still, this is an interesting deck which combines the Major Arcana from tarot with Egyptian mythology.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully done, April 17, 2009

I was excited to get this oracle since I have the book it's based on, The Shamanic Mysteries of Egypt, and I love that book. I was not disappointed with this, and I really do feel there is an energy and depth that imbues this that makes it an amazing tool to work with. I've only done a few readings with it for others, but each of those have been extremely powerful.

A very inspiring oracle especially if Egypt is close to your heart! Anubis shows you many things about yourself and Nicki and Linda have done a fine job on bringing this shamanic wisdom to life. I love this oracle deck and book because it is positive yet realistic and is not overwhelming for the beginner and is also a treasure for the seasoned seeker! May I also recommend Nicki's "Becoming An Oracle" audio book for an adventure of a lifetime! If living in this current culture has dulled your imagination, both of these works will absolutely spark it up again! Bravo Nicki and Linda! Isis is proud of you both!
