Biography

In 1987 Dublin composer Michael McGlynn founded ANÚNA. The name derives from the collective term for the three ancient types of Celtic music, Suantraí (lullaby), Geantraí (happy song) and Goltraí (lament). One of the choir's stated aims is to explore and redefine this music. Anúna is a Dublin-based a cappella choir that performs with between eleven and fourteen singers. 5.0 out of 5 stars Ethereal, relaxing, magical!, March 10, 2008

This review is from: Anuna (Audio CD)
I heard some Anuna songs on Comcast's Digital Music "Soundscapes" channel and was really transfixed and moved by it. This CD is wonderful - ethereal, relaxing and magical. I loaded it onto my iPod and play it on my SoundDock in the evening after the kids have gone to bed so I can relax while I unwind & read. It's the perfect combination of Classical, New Age & Celtic sounding music and really transports me to a different place. Love it!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Re-Release of the original "ANUNA" - FIVE STARS!, December 24, 2009
This review is from: Anuna (Audio CD)
WELL I MUST SAY I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF ANUNA SINCE I FIRST SAW THEM ON RIVERDANCE IN THE LATE NINETIES. ALTHOUGH I FELT THE ORIGINAL VERSION OF THIS ALBUM (ENTITLED "ANUNA" WITH A DIFFERENT PHOTO ON THE COVER) SUFFERED FROM PRODUCTION DEFICIENCIES, I CAN SAY THAT THEIR SUCCEEDING ALBUMS HAVE BEEN AMAZING. SOMEONE FINALLY REALIZED HOW TO FULLY EXPLOIT THE HEAVENLY, DEEPLY RICH AND FULL SOUNDS THAT THIS CHORAL GROUP CAN PRODUCE! THEIR VOCAL INTERPRETATIONS CHARACTERIZED BY OFTEN UNIQUE HARMONIC ORCHESTRATIONS ARE CONSISTENTLY EXCITING AND VIBRANT. WITH EACH ALBUM THEY JUST GET BETTER AND BETTER. THIS ALBUM IS NO EXCEPTION! IT IS A RE-RELEASE AND HAS DEFINITELY BEEN "TWEAKED" UP A LITTLE. A WONDERFUL ADDITION TO ANYONES MUSICAL COLLECTION AS ARE ALL OF ANUNA'S ALBUMS FOR THAT MATTER. I BELIEVE "INVOCATION" IS PROBABLY THE MOST HAUNTINGLY BEAUTIFUL PIECE I HAVE EVER HEARD. I CAN ONLY HOPE THEY COME BACK TO AMERICA ON SOME SORT OF TOUR AGAIN. I'LL BE FIRST IN LINE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, contemplative, relaxing, January 16, 2011

Anuna is an Irish choral group. They sing in English, Gaelic, and Latin. Their work is just exquisite.

They sing with minimal or no instrumental accompaniment. The voices are all pure, clear, light, and ethereal. They blend stunningly. This is an album I can do yoga to, comfortably.

I find the songs a bit too short, but there are a lot of them, so they make up for it. I think songs tend to be 4 minutes on other albums and these are not that long.
