Lucado's keen observations on finding fulfillment in everyday life are beautifully presented in this gift edition, interspersed with full-page calligraphic renderings of Scripture by artist Timothy Botts. Through inspirational anecdotes and observations of life, Lucado compares the lives of Christians to blacksmith's tools in various stages of usefulness.

Max Lucado is the author of many best sellers, including 3:16: The Numbers of Hope,Facing Your Giants,Traveling Light,He Chose the Nails,Come Thirsty,Cure for the Common Life, and Next Door Savior. With more than 50 million copies of his books in print, Max is one of the most recognized inspirational authors in the country. In addition to his writing, Max is the senior minister of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio,Texas. He and his wife, Denalyn, have three daughters: Jenna, Andrea, and Sara.
In just under two decades of writing, Max Lucado has accomplished more than most writers hope for in a lifetime. Most of his books have appeared on one or more best seller lists, including those published by the "New York Times," "USA Today," "Publishers Weekly," and the Christian Booksellers Association (CBA). Aside from hardcover books, Lucado's writings have also been published as children's books, videos, CD-ROMs, DVDs, music CDs, mass paperback booklets, apparel, giftware, bookmarks, calendars, study Bibles, workbooks, curricula, and plush products. In spring 2003, Hallmark/Dayspring Cards launched a new gift card line featuring excerpts from Lucado's writings--and has already sold more than one million cards.
All this success has drawn more than a little attention to a previously low-profile Texas author and minister. Lucado has been featured in a wide range of media, including "USA Today," "Larry King Live," and "NBC Nightly News." He has spoken at the National Prayer Breakfast before the President of the United States. He has traveled with internationally renowned musicians as a special speaker on their music tours, such as the highly successful "Come Together & Worship Tour" (sponsored by Chevrolet) with Grammy Award-winning artists Michael W. Smith and Third Day.
Journey to the Top Lucado was born in 1955 in San Angelo, Texas, and raised in Andrews, Texas, the youngest of four children. His father was an Exxon oil field mechanic who, Lucado remembers, always smelled of grease cleaner. "It makes it easy for me to see a God who is loving and kind--because my dad was," he says. His mother was a nurse who grew up working in the cotton fields.
Lucado went through a period of rebellion against his parents' values and their God during his teens and into college. But it wasn't long before he found himself drawn back to his roots, back to God. He married, spent time serving as a missionary in Brazil, and returned to the States, where he began working as a church minister and writing on the side.
Secret to Success From all accounts, Max Lucado is not a man consumed by sales, awards, and achievements. He often turns down media interviews since they impede on family and ministry commitments. He spends the bulk of his week serving as senior minister at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas. And he is truly surprised by his own success--more impressed by his one-in-a-million wife and three amazing daughters than by his successful writing career.
This book is about being more Christ like. You are one of the three categories in this book- in the broken tool pile (unwilling or unusable), on the anvil (have a heart for God no matter what the pain or the consequence), an instrument for noble purposes (being used for God's glory). all through out this book there are poems and Bible verses relating to what the next chapter will talk about. This book has done a great deal to my heart and is definitely worth it's money!

I love to read but don't have a lot of time! Max Lucado's books are always a pleasure to read for a couple of reasons. The points he is making are always specific and direct - usually written in short chapter format (On the Anvil being the shortest by far) making it easy to read small portions at a time and yet being given the opportunity to grasp whole concepts. His style is "light reading" yet the principles and thoughts are as deep and profound as one can apply them to their own spiritual experience. I have read most of the dozen or so books that he has written - and most of them were read in one sitting becuase once I started I couldn't put the book down. He has a unique gift of bringing people closer to God.

I found this book to be very inspirational. With it's short writings, it sisn't take long to read. You could read for a few minutes and be inspired all day long. I'm a 21 year old student, who also works. It's so hard to take time out of my busy schedule to spend with GOD. This book helped me do it.
