5.0 out of 5 stars A book about becoming more like God's kind of person
This book is about being more Christ like. You are one of the three categories in this book- in the broken tool pile (unwilling or unusable), on the anvil (have a heart for God no matter what the pain or the consequence), an instrument for noble purposes (being used for God's glory). all through out this book there are poems and Bible verses relating to what the next...

3.0 out of 5 stars I found this book very inspirational and easy to read!
I found this book to be very inspirational. With it's short writings, it sisn't take long to read. You could read for a few minutes and be inspired all day long. I'm a 21 year old student, who also works. It's so hard to take time out of my busy schedule to spend with GOD. This book helped me do it.

This book has done a great deal to my heart and is definitely worth it's money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Max Lucado's first book and will always be a favorite!!, June 28, 1998
By A Customer
I love to read but don't have a lot of time! Max Lucado's books are always a pleasure to read for a couple of reasons. The points he is making are always specific and direct - usually written in short chapter format (On the Anvil being the shortest by far) making it easy to read small portions at a time and yet being given the opportunity to grasp whole concepts. His style is "light reading" yet the principles and thoughts are as deep and profound as one can apply them to their own spiritual experience. I have read most of the dozen or so books that he has written - and most of them were read in one sitting becuase once I started I couldn't put the book down. He has a unique gift of bringing people closer to God.

5.0 out of 5 stars Would give it 10 stars!, April 3, 2009
In the most beautiful way, Max Lucado has drawn a picture of the work God does in our lives. This is my favorite Lucado book and one that I read every year. It is uplifting, challenging, convicting, inspiring. I would give it 10 stars if it was possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars On The Anvil, October 7, 2007
This is the first book Max Lucado wrote and I believe it to be one of his best! I have purchased just about every book he has written since On The Anvil but this first book really speaks to me. I have probably given away 50+ copies of this book to friends over the last 10 years or so. If you, or someone you know, is having difficulty understanding WHY you must endure tough times in your life then THIS is the book for you! Powerful, short chapters that will enable you to look at your difficulties in a new way!

4.0 out of 5 stars Many Good Insights, A Few Great Ones, April 26, 2007

(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
'On The Anvil' is a short, inspirational book with some very good observations. It is composed of many very short chapters. They are really 'bite size' musings. Most are 2-3 pages long.

Although most of it is fairly average, it has some great stories and two really superb chapters. 'The Movement That Was Doomed To Fail', Chapter 37, contains some very insightful, thought provoking remarks about the totally flawed plan (from a human perspective) for the spread of Christianity.

Another really excellent section is chapter 39 about unconditional love. It is one that should be read by everyone in this world of superficial relationships.

These two chapters alone are worth the price of the book. My only disappointment is that the book is so short. I recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Different for a Max Book, April 10, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Many of Lucado's book begin to sound similar after 7 or 8 of them but this one was a refreshing change from the others. It contains thought provoking poems at the beginningof each chapter that challenge the reader to get out of the dusty corner and to get in the hands of the Blacksmith. That is painful, it is tough, but it is good.

I thought this audio book was inspirational and well worth the money!!

It makes you think about God's word in a different light and takes you in depth and makes you understand certain things better.
