5.0 out of 5 stars The Help I've Been Seeking
This book helped me identify my anxiety problem (only recently I realized that I have an anxiety disorder) and already I feel better just having read it. It's an unbelievably anxious time and this is clearly making my anxiety worse, and this book provides the clearest road map to treatments, including medications and cognitive therapy and relaxation methods. 5.0 out of 5 stars The Help I've Been Seeking, March 15, 2003

This review is from: The Anxiety Book (Hardcover)
This book helped me identify my anxiety problem (only recently I realized that I have an anxiety disorder) and already I feel better just having read it. It's an unbelievably anxious time and this is clearly making my anxiety worse, and this book provides the clearest road map to treatments, including medications and cognitive therapy and relaxation methods. I have really enjoyed reading it--my anxiety levels dropped just from hearing stories of people who licked their anxiety problem. It's clear and comforting--I couldn't recommend it more highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS FRIEND I KNOW HAS A PROBLEM..., September 5, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Anxiety Book (Hardcover)
I'd like to say that I sat down and discussed this one with a friend but then you would really know that I was the one with the anxiety problem. Actually my wife bought this book in order to understand me better but I read it first and found that is was just what the doctor ordered.

The book offers some valuable statistics. For those of us with anxiety it is priceless to know that we are not alone. Anxiety by nature invites the sufferer to believe that he or she alone is suffering while, in truth there are millions.

The book defines the various types of conditions and offers a plethora of applicable solutions including meditation, relaxation, diet and exercise. Dr. Davidson also discusses medications, whether pharmaceuticals or natural treatments, ways that was easy to understand.

I feel like this book gave me a toolkit to help address my situation and move toward greater strength and confidence. I can help you to if you are willing to admit to yourself that you are ready to take the first step.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for those with anxiety disorder!, September 23, 2003

As an anxiety-disordered individual, I can highly recommend this book. It is a bit lengthy but worth the time and money. Read it and be encouraged, comforted, and strengthened.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grateful to find this book!, August 11, 2006
This review is from: The Anxiety Book (Paperback)
I am totally grateful to find this book and to have read it. I find myself constantly thinking about and applying what it taught me about dealing with anxiety in everyday situations and it really does help!

I have read so much about anxiety that it really seems that there was no more left to learn, but this book taught me more, most importantly methods I could use to handle my anxiety without having to rely on medication.

If you are interested in medication, this book also covers those aspects as well as herbal medicine, notedly Kava and St. Johns Wort.

I was really at a loss when it came to dealing with anxiety and reading this book produced a feeling of well being. The coping techniques should be invaluable to anyone in need of help dealing with their anxiety.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book., March 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Anxiety Book (Paperback)
I'd heard about this book on TV and when a friend of mine who suffers from free floating anxiety attacks mentioned she'd heard a lot of good things about the book, also, I found it on Amazon and had it shipped to her. She says she is very happy with the book, and that it's helped her greatly in understanding and eliminating her anxiety.

I found this book to be a God send. It's a very helpful, useful, insightful, book. It's helpful personally and in my practice as a school nurse. A book you read and then lend to others.

I am very familiar with the pain of anxiety, panic attacks, and agoraphobia for I suffered from these maladies for several decades. During those years of suffering I believed that my problems were purely mental and underwent treatment by psychiatrists, psychologists, and hypnotherapists. I took various prescribed medications and read many books such as this, but experienced little relief. And then something wonderful happened: I began taking a daily supplement of chelated magnesium (for a different ailment) and shortly thereafter experienced a significant diminishment of anxiety in addition to cure of the ailment for which I had originally taken the supplemental magnesium. There seemed to be no explanation for why taking supplemental magnesium caused this wonderful loss of anxiety until the publication in 2003 of the important book The Miracle of Magnesium by Dr. Carolyn Dean. Early in her book Dr. Dean reveals that a major cause of anxiety and panic attacks is deficiency of magnesium and that magnesium deficiency is quite common in the U.S. Therefore, I beg all sufferers of anxiety, panic attacks, and agoraphobia -- whatever else you may do -- please purchase and read The Miracle of Magnesium by Dr. Carolyn Dean and please try the magnesium supplementation which she recommends. It may change your life as it has changed mine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good beginners book, March 31, 2008
By
This review is from: The Anxiety Book (Paperback)
This is a wonderful basic book on Anxiety disorders. It goes into depth discussing the different disorders and their symptoms, and is a very solution oriented book, giving exercises to do and ideas of some of the medications used to treat anxiety disorders. It also talks about cognitive behavioral therapy, and gives such exercises. This sets this book out from many of the others, as this approach to dealing with anxiety disorders and depression is becoming more popular.
If you have already read some of the basic books on Anxiety I would recommend a wonderful book that has been more than a tremendous help to me, although the title doesn't sound like a book for anxiety, it is for both anxiety and depression, and uses only cognitive behavioral therapy. It is called "Ten days to self esteem" by David Burns, I would also recommend any books by David Burns that would help with anxiety and depression.
