Book Description

October 30, 2004 1841695165 978-1841695167 2

This textbook discusses anxiety - a pervasive and significant negative effect that is a central feature of many psychological problems, including those that were frequently called "neuroses". Anxiety is an intriguing and complex phenomenon that lends itself to cognitive analyses. It involves the interplay of vigilance, attention, perception, reasoning and memory, the very meat of cognitive processing.

Research on anxiety has accelerated, specialized clinics for dealing with anxiety disorders have been introduced and self-help groups established in many parts of the world. This growth is justified because anxiety is one of the most prominent and pervasive emotions, and large numbers of people are distressed by inappropriate or excessive anxiety.

Review

"[This book] synthesises a wealth of clinical and basic research data and highlights the key findings in the field. It is informative, clearly written and very easy to read. I highly recommend this book as a starting point for psychology students or practitioners requiring a concise yet authoritative overview of this flourishing area of research and clinical practice." - Melanie Marks, Behaviour Research and Therapy

Pig Boy (Little Trough, Porcinia) - See all my reviews
This book is very nice to read, but it failed to make me anxious. I suggest in next edition some more anxiety. The publisher should consider supplying reader with a large bag of wine gums containing a limited supply of red ones and an abundance of green. This is guaranteed to make a boy very, very nervous.
