Book Description

An Eight-Step Program for Overcoming Anxiety

Anxiety disorders cause untold suffering, and they affect one in four people. This book offers an eight-step practical program for fast and long-lasting relief of anxiety symptoms. The Anxiety Cure is written by a father and his two daughters, now in clinical practice together, who tell the inspiring story of how they overcame anxiety in their family. The authors share their step-by-step methods for dealing with the six main types of anxiety, including panic disorder, agoraphobia, generalized anxiety disorder, specific phobias, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Grounded in the authors' own treatment of thousands of clinically anxious people, The Anxiety Cure:

  • Tells how to manage anxiety at home and at work
  • Gives action plans for friends, family, and support people
  • Provides easy relaxation techniques
  • Outlines lifesaving strategies for anxious people with alcohol or drug problems
  • Includes dramatic stories, as well as boxes, tools, and forms to chart your personal progress.

"The Anxiety Cure is a warm, wise, and thoroughly wonderful book for people with anxiety disorders and for everyone who cares about them." —from the foreword by Jerilyn Ross, MA., L.I.C.S.W., President, Anxiety Disorders Association of America, and author of Triumph Over Fear.

"The Anxiety Cure will be a big hit with the public and with anxious people." —Willard Scott.

"The Anxiety Cure is sure to enjoy substantial popularity and will be used widely by anxious people, their families, and therapists." —R. Reid Wilson, Ph.D., author of Don't Panic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful for certain types of anxiety, November 2, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Anxiety Cure: An Eight-Step Program for Getting Well (Paperback)
This book is extremely helpful for people with phobias, panic attacks, OCD, or any specific fear. I found it less helpful for people with GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder). The techniques suggested are nonetheless useful for times when anxiety seems to be overwhelming. As with any self-help book, much of the book is spent trying to "relate" to the reader...and, as with any self-help book, the more you practice, the more valuable you'll find the book.

I have just recently acquired this book, and within an hour I felt like I was on the right track to deliver a knock out punch to this little dragon that has been messing with me for many years. I fully expect to win this one, and as I progress, I'll tell you more.

5.0 out of 5 stars An important resource for many families., September 9, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Anxiety Cure: An Eight-Step Program for Getting Well (Paperback)
The Anxiety Cure is a welcome resource to my family's library. I read this book much like I approach the World Wide Web. Rather than addressing the text "vertically" (from page 1 to 2, and so on) as I would with most books, I read The Anxiety Cure more "horizontally." By this I mean that I first went to the index and read about the subjects that concerned me most. Then, when at those pages I read onward to get additional information and was reminded of other issues/topics that interested me. I then returned to the index to see where those topics were elucidated, and repeated the process.

It is rare that I find a useful book with information so logically presented and so thoroughly indexed. The Anxiety Cure is a resource that I will continue to refer to again and again.
