Anxiety disorders are among the most prevalent mental health problems in childhood. In this timely book, an international team of psychiatrists and psychologists review the most recent theoretical and empirical developments in the field and indicate how these may inform researchers and clinicians. Following a historical introduction, chapters review conceptual and management issues, including cognitive, neurobiological, learning, and developmental processes, and peer group and family influences. Chapters include discussions on phenomenology, classification, assessment, clinical course, intervention, and outcome, as well as pharmacological and psychosocial treatment approaches. This text is an authoritative guide to the understanding and assessment of anxiety disorders in the young, and will appeal to clinicians, researchers, and to all mental health professionals involved with this age group.

Review

"The book is a useful update in a relatively uncrowded research area of childhood psychopathology." Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry

"There is much of value in this book, which should certainly be in the libraries of centres in which children or adolescents with anxiety diorders are treated or assessed." Canadian Child Pyschiatry Review

"This is a nice introduction to anxiety disorders in children and adolescents. It is a very worthwhile contribution to this field and it is highly recommended." Doody Publishing, Inc.

Great for research and education. Very limited insight into what to actually do when presented with a anxious child. I am a clinician and I was hoping this would assist me in treatment, it has not!!
