5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Parenting Strategies for Overcoming Test Anxiety! September 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Katherine gives you 10 easy to understand descriptions of anxiety and seven signs when it is troublesome. She takes you from night terrors to anxiety during school tests. She calls the latter the Test Anxiety Monster.

I loved her kindness jar and her forgiveness jar for helping families focus on what matters most. Her eight statements parents can tell their kids when they do poorly on tests make a lot of sense.

Developing a personal feeling thermometer is just one of Katherine's great techniques. Her downward scale is easy to use starting with the cute sunshine face to a very sad face. Kids will understand the pictures and the words from 10 to down to 1.

She also developed an anxiety thermometer that's so clear any parent can draw it and any child will understand it.

To help your child, Katherine provides 8 anxiety feeling signs that you can discuss with your child. She tells you to post them on the fridge and ask your child for their feeling temperature 3 times a day.

Next Katherine gives you 4 self-soothing strategies to teach your anxious child. She also gives great advice on how to rehearse successful test taking. She even gives you a game plan to use with your child.

For parents of children who may have learning disabilities, Katherine gives 10 special parenting tips.

If you're wondering whether to pick up this excellent kindle book, wonder no more. It will help you and your child. When kids aren't anxious about school and tests, they are happier, confident, and more successful. With Katherine's help, you can give this gift to your child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended October 23, 2012

As a psychotherapist I am always looking for accessible, accurate and helpful material on emotional regulation to share with my clients. "Tame the Test Anxiety Monster" meets these criteria and goes one better - it employs a gentle humor that can reduce the reader's anxiety immediately. I know it did mine.

This book will be useful not only for parents struggling to improve their skills in parenting anxious young test-takers, but also for older students who can apply the principles to themselves and adults who have difficulty regulating their own anxieties.

5.0 out of 5 stars Always insightful August 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Being that I know the author personally, it is difficult not to be biased about her writings. That being said and for the same reason, I am absolutely sure you will find this book or any of the books written by her extremely insightful and easy to read not just for the parents dealing with the issues but for the children as well. Can't wait to read the whole thing.
