4.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful advice! Offered hope. Author was sincere.
I almost cried when I read the first couple of chapters because I thought "Finally! Someone else understands what I'm feeling!" It reassured me that being anxious doesn't mean I'm crazy. Besides giving me hope that I can conquer my panic attacks, it gave me concrete means by which to achieve my goal, step by step. Since the author had experienced panic...

Since the author had experienced panic attacks himself, I felt a bond with him. It was like a friend giving me encouragement and guidance. It also made me feel better about myself, which is one of the steps in overcoming panic attacks. Now I just have to put his advice into practice!

This book is an excellent resource on techniques on how to overcome anxiety/panic attacks. It was well written and the instructions were easy to follow. This book has made a tremendous difference in my life in a very short period of time (about 1 month).

This is one of the best books I've read on anxiety and panic attacks...I would call it a life-changing book!! The author has been there and knows what it feels like to be anxious and panicky, and he also knows how to combat those serious problems. He helps you through your own anxiety and panic attacks and helps you to understand both why you have them and how to conquer them. He describes methods of curing yourself both on a conscious level and also on a subconscious (perhaps you can call it spiritual) level. He helps you learn to meditate and use affirmations & vizualizations to reduce the anxiety in your everyday life. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is anxious, panicky, or terrified and needs some strong answers quickly!!

I was impressed with this books approach to working through anxiety or panic attacks. But, I didn't find anything of noteworty exception to distinguish it from other books dealing with this subject.

It is also a fairly 'quick' read....which, for anyone dealing with this type of issue, really should spend a little more time on. I felt like it was best served as an 'airport read; it's style just didn't lend itself to the thorough examination one struggling with panic attacks should invest in.

Again, well-written and easy to understand...but I don't see this as a 'life-altering' read for anyone dealing with these issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hits the mark in every area, March 19, 1999

Robert Handly has been there. He tells it like it is and I appreciate his candor and his compassion. Of all the books about this dibilitating dilemma, his is the best I have read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good - not great, June 28, 2005
This review is from: Anxiety & Panic Attacks: Their Cause and Cure (Mass Market Paperback)
I cannot say that I got anything special from this book - it's useful, but after trying several things, it's not the first I'd go with. I would suggest "hope & help for your nerves" (by Weekes) or the program from http://selftherapy.org

4.0 out of 5 stars A Successful Approach, August 31, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Anxiety & Panic Attacks: Their Cause and Cure (Mass Market Paperback)
The value of this book is that it teaches a successful approach to alleviating the symptoms of panic attacks and anxiety. First, through his story, and the stories of others, Mr. Handy gave me the feeling that "I'm not alone" in having to deal with these problems, and that it is possible to get on the road to recovery. He suggests a real plan on dealing with the problems of panic and anxiety, which I have found really works. I strongly recommend this book for anyone suffering from these problems.

(VINE VOICE)    (TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Anxiety & Panic Attacks: Their Cause and Cure (Mass Market Paperback)
I am very familiar with the pain of anxiety, panic attacks, and agoraphobia for I suffered from these maladies for several decades. During those years of suffering I underwent treatment by psychiatrists, psychologists, and hypnotherapists. I took various prescribed medications and read many books, of which this was one of the best, but still I experienced little relief. And then, after I began taking a daily supplement of chelated magnesium for another seemingly-unrelated ailment, for the first time I began experiencing significant diminishment of anxiety. There seemed to be no explanation for this wonderful change until the publication in 2003 of the book The Miracle of Magnesium by Dr. Carolyn Dean. In her wonderful book Dr. Dean reveals that a major cause of anxiety and panic attacks is deficiency of magnesium and that magnesium deficiency is quite common in the U.S. Therefore, I beg all sufferers of anxiety, panic attacks, and agoraphobia to purchase and read The Miracle of Magnesium by Dr. Carolyn Dean and try the magnesium supplementation which she recommends. It may change your life as has changed mine.
