Justin Furstenfeld has never shied away from revealing his most intimate and personal life details in his music. Music, for someone like Justin, is therapeutic. This is a way for him to vent out his frustrations and lament his pain for his own personal growth as well as the growth and empowerment of others. As Justin has said in numerous interviews, he writes music for people in pain. So, when listening to a Blue October album, one who understands where Justin is coming from can and will be swallowed up in his message and his approach to combatting life's many demons. If one has not encountered similar life lessons then they may find his music and his message perhaps too heavy and even unappealing. For those of us who haven't always had it `easy', Justin has created a sanctum of hope and inspiration in his music; if not for the fact that he honestly and heroically allows us to see that we are not alone.

`Any Man in America' is easily the most personal and most intimate album from Blue October. Each track is a snippet of Justin's current situation. Throughout the twelve tracks Justin chronicles the demise of his marriage and the bitter custody battle that followed. With a young child thrown in the mix, life can get messy, and Justin exposes his personal weaknesses as well as the evil thrown upon him by people he thought loved him.

One thing that never leaves Justin is passion. This album is thriving on that passion. One never doubts Justin's intentions, and even when he is spouting out hateful rants we can hear the frustrated betrayal that has corroded the love he still has burning in his heart for the one who has hurt him to severely. It is this quality that really makes `Any Man in America' work so strongly as a whole.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album that will touch your soul August 16, 2011
Format:Audio CD
"Any Man In America" is the 6th studio album released by Blue October and definitely one of their best. The band takes you on a journey of heartbreak and healing that touch on the personal events experienced by lead singer Justin Furstenfeld. Furstenfeld is not only an incredible singer, but also an amazing songwriter, and his talents really shine on this release. A combination of grunge, folk, indie rock, blues and straight ahead rock and roll characterize the band's sound, and the combination is perfect. "The Feel Again (Stay)" touches on the deterioration of Furstenfeld's marriage and his separation from his daughter. The fact that you can actually FEEL his pain is a tribute to his ability as a vocalist and artist. The piano and synths add a texture that makes the song a dynamic masterpiece with pure emotion. "The Chills" is an up tempo song that has a catchy melody with hooks that grab you and reel you in. The guitars simply rock, the drums are amazing, and it's just an awesome tune. "The Follow Through" is the perfect song to close out the album. With a beautiful acoustic start and synths best described as elegant, it brings everything together giving you a sense of closure to the story of Furstenfeld's life. Overall this is a great recoding; the production is crisp and fresh, every song is incredible, and you'll feel as if your soul has been touched. Long time fans of the band will love this, and I highly recommend it to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat torn but not dissapointed August 18, 2011
Format:MP3 Music
I have been a huge Blue October fan for years, and with that said, I feel like there is no way to review or give a proper opinion on any of their albums or songs if you are comparing to another album. Especially if the compared album is your "favorite" of theirs. Every album has its own feel and it has always been that way. From what I've read in other reviews, especially negative ones, people are upset this isnt another Foiled album. We will never hear anything like Into the Ocean again. There will never be another Hate Me. I think that's okay, and I'm sure Justin and the guys feel the same. The reason every album has a different sound and feel is the same reason they are so amazing. Whatever Justin is going through at the time is what is going to be on the album. Period. The same way each song in this album gives a timeline of his divorce / custody battle, the Blue October albums give a timeline of his life. Look at the last three especially. Foiled documented his recovery, while Approaching Normal celebrated the new additions to the bandmates families, and now Any Man shows it led to disaster. I love the fact that it's so unconventional. I mean, read other reviews. The complaints after the first listen "He complains about his wife the entire album." Okay.... Now do you think the band listened to the album after completion? Of course they did, and they heard the same thing we hear, and they left it alone. I am sure they knew criticism was to follow, and some people wouldnt like it, but it's art. They aren't making music to make "hits" and I love that. The height of emotion in each and every song on this album is like nothing else I've ever heard. From start to finish you feel like you're living through it with them. This album is truly it's own animal and unlike any other Blue October album. Read more ›

This album got me through my divorce. It's gut-wrenching, beautiful, and bad-ass all at the same time. The tour was even more amazing. Read more
