The war between the Bushwackers and the Jayhawkers was violent and destructive, but it was nothing compared to the hatred between the Murphys and the Coltons. Unfortunately, the children of the feuding families were always sucked into the fight. At least, that was the way of it until Ryan Murphy stepped in and saved Julia Colton from a Jayhawker attack. Julia Colton was soft, warm, and loving, even if it was buried beneath a world of Bushwackers ways. Sam Colton had taught his family that the Jayhawkers of Kansas were the enemy. Because he believed the Murphy farm belonged to him, everyone named Maurphy was the worst of the Jayhawkers. Shamus Murphy, in return, raised his family to believe the same about the Bushwhackers, especially those named Colton. However, when Julia Colton was about to be raped and killed by several Jayhawkers, Ryan Murphy saved her. They became star-crossed lovers that defied all reason. As each family member died in the family feud, as well as, the Civil War, their love was tested. As bullets and blood ran freely, they must choose between their individual families, or each other. ***As passionate and star-crossed as Romeo and Juliet! This book was full of twists and turns. I saw no way out of the mess! I held my breath several times during the story. I thought loving through the Civil War was bad enough. Adding a blood thirsty family feud was like adding gas to a fire. WOW!***
