First of all, this great cookbook isn't run of the mill recompiled recipes like some you find in Kindle Books. Instead, every one was handed down to Dianna or created by her. All were used in her catering business and are a combination of simple ingredients and good cooking skills.

I knew I was in love with this cookbook when the first recipe on the list was cappuccino brownies - my kind of cooking! Not only are the recipes excellent, her personal touch of telling where the inspiration came from and the sections on garnishing put this book at the top of the list. Well, all those things AND the tempting photos of the deserts!

My granddaughter (and her mom) now live with us, and I may not do catering, but I do a lot of potlucks, so I am always on the lookout for good recipes,and am grateful to have found this gem!

FYI, the Table of Contents doesn't show in the top "go to" section, but it is there, just past the cover page.

I suppose it's a bit ironic that I'm writing this review on Thanksgiving Day, after being with my family for several hours, surrounded by the sights and smells of tons of good food and a half-dozen desserts. But with a sated appetite, at least I can write about the desserts in Diana Bricker's book without getting hunger pangs. Ms. Bricker says the recipes in "Simple Dessert Recipes" are a combination of hand-me-downs and original recipes that she developed, and that they're simple enough for just about anyone to prepare. Each recipe has an interesting little snippet about the recipe's background.

After looking through the recipes, I agree that they're simple enough for most people with any cooking experience to make. And you'll want to make some of them - these are some of the tastiest-looking desserts that I've seen in any cookbook or food magazine. Directions are straightforward, and all measurements are clearly given. The approximate preparation time is given, and the number of servings is stated. I didn't notice any ingredients that couldn't be found in most supermarkets, although some ingredients, such as fresh berries, might be seasonal.

As with any really good cookbook, there is accompanying color photography for each recipe to activate your taste buds. If you've ever tried to photograph food, you know it's not as simple as it looks. The photography in Simple Dessert Recipes is outstanding, and the embedded images can be enlarged with a touch (note: I was reading the book on a Kindle Fire HD).

The twenty-five recipes are all mouthwatering, and there's a good variety of cakes, pies, cookies, brownies, even a pudding. The first recipe - Cappuccino Brownies - may be my first one to try, although the Key Lime Cheesecake Pie is begging for my attention.

Yes, the recipes are easy and simple. Some of them probably taste pretty good. But too many use highly processed ingredients - canned pie filling, hot chocolate mix, a certain frozen whipped topping, frozen juices, boxed cake mix... Too high in all things bad. I've found, with cooking, you get what you put into it. I'm not especially accomplished, but this is not the cookbook for me.

I absolutely love THIS book of recipes!!! It TRULY reminds me of my Grandmother's and Mother's recipes from my warmest childhood memories!!!
Just reading about the recipes of how they're blended together, bring me back to the warm kitchen filled with ALL the aromas of my yester-year's!! I enjoyed this cookbook and cannot wait to try the recipes. Some use boxed ingredients and frozen whipped topping. Some don't.

I liked the fact that there is a mix of from scratch and not from scratch recipes in here. There are pictures showing realistic views of homemade goods. Not all recipes have pictures, that suits me fine. I don't need a picture to show me the finished product for basic recipes.

I was pleased with this book and will keep my eyes open for other offerings from this author.

Standing on a chair with a dishtowel as an apron, I started cooking at the age of 4. My love of cooking and experimenting in the kitchen led me to restaurant ownership and a successful catering business--all while raising three sons on a ranch at the Wyoming and South Dakota border. For the past 25 years, I have served and catered several events: weddings, church gatherings, and corporate affairs. I enjoy sharing my heart and passion of cooking with the world.

Even today, my friends, past clients, and readers e-mail or call me. They all have one purpose in mind: "hey, do you have a recipe that serves X number of people?" Or, "Hey, do you have a recipe on X?"

Keep the messages coming! I love to help people with my cooking experience and I want others to learn how to best serve those around them with hospitality and food.
