5.0 out of 5 stars Singer from Another Time!, May 19, 2002

Living in Los Angeles, I had the fortune of hearing Robinson perform live; Simply awesome. When I bought this CD I was disappointed he did not include his version of "Night In Tunisa," in which he stylishly blends Dizzy's original version with Chaka Khan's' 'Tunisa'-influenced "And the Melody Lingers On!" Male singers today can't do to songs what Robinson does, and it's an absolute treat experiencing his textures and phrasing. He belongs in a category with Billy Eckstine, Jimmy Scott, and Johnny Hartman. His rendition of Marvin Gaye's "I Want You" belongs in the canon of Jazz-remade pop tunes; It is a true classic I can listen to every day, every hour!
It's shameful singers such as Robinson don't get the radio airplay they deserve; Music fans everywhere are missing a rare, joyus gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best kept secret ...Too bad it's too secret., May 27, 2007

Let me start saying this: Pure talent. If you haven't heard about Jeff Robinson and you're into jazz, smooth jazz or r&b, you're missing one of kind vocalist. Robinson's voice has the texture of a true crooner combined with a soulful tone capable of delighting the most demanding listener. His rendition of Marvin Gaye's "I want you" is an absolute master piece. The song is showcased in a slower tempo than the original one which in turn makes it harder to sustain a well-balanced phrasing. Robinson delivers it effortlessly and with a crystal clear tone. Absolutely awesome! His talent is paired with those of trumpeter Rick Braun and keyboardist Rodney Lee whom provide a beautiful background to Robinson's voice. This is a remarkable album for anyone who enjoys the genre and I strongly recommend it. Unfortunately Jeff Robinson remains largely unknown to the mainstream and without a trace of doubt, this guy is ready for the "Majors". Maybe a more friendly-listener repertoire could give him the big break he deserves. Maybe a major label will step up to the plate. Whatever it is, I root for that.
