2.0 out of 5 stars A Rather Disappointing CD Single., August 14, 2006
This review is from: Any Time, Any Place (MAXI CD) (Audio CD)
First off, let me say that this is a great late night song which I frequently requested during the Quiet Storm program back when this song was in it's hey day so the SONG is not the problem here. R. Kelly brings his style to the table and makes it more "daytime" in my own opinion ending it off with a racy moan. Radio never allowed this version to fully run it's course, of course. In my opinion R. Kelly's mix is good.

OK now for the letdown: What I was hoping for on this cd single with the Jam & Lewis remix which was of the original music and also I was hoping for the Legendary Dub Mix for Throb which appeared on the 12" format awhile the Legendary Club Mix appeared on the import. Unfortunately both of those did not appear on this cd single. Instead I see a House mix of this song! A HOUSE MIX!!!! I was not ready for that. As for Throb, only the album version is on heree along with the album version of the title track and the non-album track of "And On And On". So two remixes, two album tracks an a bonus, and since I had both the R. Kelly mix, the album version and the bonus on the cassette single(yes, I did buy those back then!) I found this single to be a real let down.

Needless to say the House Mix is not good. It is listenable and you certainly can dance to it but here you have these bedroom song lyrics, Janet's drawn out vocal work over a driving 4/4 at about 122 or about twice the bpm, nothing works, this was so...unnecessary.

So why did not we get the Legendary Dub Mix of "Throb" or at least the J&L mix of the title track? Nowadays this single is good since it features the R. Kelly mix and the non-album song "And On And On" but gee wiz it's still not that good of a deal. If you own "Janet Remixed" this single is not even that becasue the R.K. mix and the bonus are on there along with a nice remix by C.J. Machintosh and some other goodies.

Oh well........

4.0 out of 5 stars tight, August 16, 2007
throb was a ok cut. on and on was cool, but any time any place was the cut. the Album version was cool, but the R.Kelly Re-Mix is a Classic. Janet Sounded good on it. this cut still is banging. real smooth and laid-back.

Janet gets seriously sexy in this track...

Her vocals will make anybody melt.

This is probably her most creative single off the Janet. album, yet, it is the least known of the bunch ('that's the way love goes' 'if' 'again' 'you want this')
