4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book April 29, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This book picks up at the end of the hike Adam began in At any Price. The book is written from Adam’s POV. There is a very different tone between these two books and now Adam and Mia are learning to deal with being in a relationship with each other. There are a lot of struggles in this book and some of the same faults that came up in the first book re-appear. Adam is still very controlling (which can be frustrating as a reader) but Mia is still trying to do everything on her own as well. Both need to learn how to let others in and trust them. It does help to understand Adam better when you hear his thoughts. It does drag a little in the middle where you wonder what in the world is happening but all the questions raised in this book do get explained by the end. Fair warning there is a cliffhanger. I hope there isn’t too long to wait until book 3.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Gaming System Book 2...WOW! April 30, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
When I received an ARC for Brenna Aubrey’s “At Any Turn” I have to admit I squealed…just a little. Okay, maybe a little more than a little. I loved the first book in the series, “At Any Price” and I’ve been not so patiently waiting to read the second installment.

Then I opened the book and I looked at it. Ugh. Oh No. It can’t be true, I thought. Brenna seriously didn’t do this to me! She wrote the book in Adam’s point of view. Oh. Holy. Hotness. Batman. Then I really squealed. I loved that I got to see the events through Adam’s eyes, know his thoughts, feel his emotions. And his character had depth. Brenna did an excellent job writing Adam. I was drawn into his world immediately. And, oh that boy…he is book boyfriend material all the freakin’ way.

I did miss seeing things from Mia’s perspective at times. I think there were instances that her character could have shown a little more emotion, or feeling so the reader knew what her “verbal tone” or body language was. Sometimes I had trouble figuring it out, but in some cases I could tell that is what the author was aiming for and she nailed it. Mia is fighting some pretty big demons in “At Any Turn” and some of the decisions she makes, like any normal person, are stupid. And I wanted to bonk her upside the head. But her character was written so well. I could see the change from the first book to the second, which was a very important aspect of this story.

Brenna Aubrey’s writing was easy to read. I love her style and voice. Her characters jump off the page and pull you into their world. The book was well thought out and flowed well, pacing was good. I just love this series and I really enjoyed that Brenna took a chance and wrote from Adam’s point of view.

3.0 out of 5 stars Book Review from Must Read Before You Die May 27, 2014
By Nime
Format:Kindle Edition
Not as good as the first book but still had a great time reading it. This one is a completely different plot line from the first book. For one thing, it's told from Adam's point of view. (So thankful that it's not a repeat of book 1 from guy POV!!) The story continues off from where book 1 leaves off and starts with Adam coming back from a month long hike to get away from his work addiction.

The main plot line of why Mia was so distant was so obvious but for some reason Adam couldn't figure it out. For a really smart guy this just seemed totally unbelievable. But whatever, I'll go with it. There was one part in the story towards the end where I was just really pissed off at Mia. A lot of the pain and heartache could have been avoided if only she tried to communicate with Adam... so this whole story was on the basis of Mia just being a wuss and not opening up to her partner on what was really going on.

Enjoyed this but not a must read before you die. Yes, I will be reading book 3. Book 2 ends in a cliff hanger. Not one where I'm bawling and begging to read the next book, but there are unresolved things and the plot line will continue in the last book.

Don't know how to hide spoilers on an Amazon review, so see my profile's website link for spoilers.

4.0 out of 5 stars So entertaining! April 30, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the sequel of At Any Price, Mia and Adam's story. This is a continuation of their love story with all their communication problems. Both are stubborn and both don't like to award control to the other, thus keeping information from each other. Mia has to make decisions on her studies, and Adam interferes, trying to defend his choices. His actions make Mia think he doesn't trust her, then he thinks she doesn't trust that he wants her best interests. Adam is a geek, therefore he doesn't understand the nuances of a relationship with a girl. Furthermore, his abandonement issues with his dead sister make him want to control Mia so she won't leave him. Add a stubborn independent Mia and you have a series of fights. In truth, all the back and forth got a little tiring and annoying until the surprise ending which also ended in a cliffhanger. Since this book is written in Adam's POV, you feel his anxiety and cheer for him, while you despair that he's such a guy and so clueless. On Mia's side, her silence and secrecy is very annoying and you want to tear her hair out for giving up so easily on a good guy.
