1.0 out of 5 stars Not impressed
My roommate borrowed this CD from a friend and we both just had a chance to listen to it. I must say that I was 100% under whelmed. The music seems very amateurish and unoriginal. We did not finish the CD but from what we heard, it was a flop. In addition, it seemed to me that the recording quality was substandard. In my opinion, save your money with this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars well done, fellas, April 28, 2006
This review is from: Any Wonder (Audio CD)
This album manages one of the things I like best about recorded music... it covers a variety of emotions with its different songs while at the same time staying true to the band's overall sound and coming to a resolution at the end. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens to this band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this cd! Fun and catchy songs!, April 28, 2006
This review is from: Any Wonder (Audio CD)
I just bought this cd yesterday but it has already become one of my favorites! I have been taking some stressful final exams and this music helps me chill out for a while and let out some energy. All of the tracks are really catchy which is great for singing loudly in the car, especially with "Yell it out". I defintely recommend this CD to anyone looking for something fresh and fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars good stuff, April 28, 2006
This review is from: Any Wonder (Audio CD)
Upon listening to this album I realized that this band can really ride the line between quality songwriting and interesting experimentation. The songs are well crafted without sounding too bland or cliche because of their choices of sounds and slight manipulations on what you'd expect to hear. This band has some serious potential.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes, this music & band rock!, April 28, 2006
This review is from: Any Wonder (Audio CD)
I had the great opportunity to hear this music in 2005 when the band came to Santa Fe. From the moment I heard their music I felt inspired and wanted to get up and dance. The vocals of Ben, the lead singer, are pure, on pitch, and magical. The drummer, Gregg, is awesome. He definitely knows how to womp up the energy. Tom, John, and Nick are also incredible musicians who not only know how to "unplug" on their guitars, but other instruments as well. The lyrics these guys write have great messages for people of all ages. They produce the kind of music that to my ear sounds like Dave Matthews meets U2 meets the Beatles. Their new release Any Wonder is the kind of CD that you can listen to over and over again. I can't wait for their next CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Honest and emotional. Rock and Roll at its finest. but..., April 28, 2006
This review is from: Any Wonder (Audio CD)
I stumbled across this album while searching iTunes. I am not a big digital music fan, so I decided to buy and review "Any Wonder" on Amazon.

I gather from their website that Violet Nine new to the current rock and roll scene. You can tell... the music is untainted by corporate agenda (yet). I say "yet" because it's obvious after one listen, these guys will be big.

I just get a feeling this is the album these guys WANTED to make. Too much to todays music is based on a "scene". Violet Nine's music is fresh and emotional... but don't get me wrong, it can still fit into the current trends.

So why give it 4 stars if you love it so much? Well, like every new band they have some things to learn. I think the album attempts too many styles. It seems like they took the best songs of their collection and recorded them (an all-to often problem with debut albums). But the songs themselves are well executed and sound amazing. My personal favorites are Leaving Rain, Out Loud, All That Glitters and i have a soft spot for I've Seen You Before, although i think its a bit lackluster in its lyrics.

4 stars is fair for this Boston 5-piece. I highly recommend getting this album. Its insanely cheap and worth every penny and then some. One listen and I'm sure you'll love it just as i do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive debut from Boston band, April 26, 2006
This review is from: Any Wonder (Audio CD)
When I first heard this record, I knew it was one which would live in my CD player/ iPod for a significant amount of time. "Yell It Out" stands out as a catchy, energetic song which grabs the attention of the listener and is very radio friendly. "Images of Me" relays feelings of self reflection, self doubt and then self righteousness - one of the strongest songs on the roster. The record has both driving rock and soothing melodies. Violet Nine has a diverse sound which will attract a varied fan base. ANY WONDER shows promise of great things to come from Violet Nine.

If, instead, you're looking for a well-executed debut album, check out Any Wonder by Violet Nine.

The album has several very good tracks (Proposal, On Again Off Again, Images of Me), some good tracks (Out Loud, I've Seen You Before), a few that aren't quite as good as I think they could be (Yell it Out), and some that should have never left the demo (Imagination). On the whole, I think the guitar work is quite good (I've Seen You Before) and in some places even creepy-good (On Again Off Again). The vocals are always competent and in places really strong.

As others have noted, the band seems to have a very faithful, devoted following in Boston, and that has to count for something. This album is very entertaining and only gets better the more I listen to it. One of the other reviewers bemoaned the prevalence of "five star ratings" for this album, and while I tend to agree that Any Wonder may not be an instant classic, I have no reservations in strongly recommending it. It's unquestionably worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blown away again!, May 8, 2006
This review is from: Any Wonder (Audio CD)
I have been waiting for Violet Nine to release a full-length album for so long. Don't get me wrong, their 4-song EP and Live From The Cutting Room records are amazing, but its nice to hear a "real" record from the band, and Any Wonder was worth the wait.

Although I love "Yell It Out" i don't think it's the strongest song on the record and don't see why it's the first single. "All That Glitters" however is a masterpiece in the same vein as "Counting Down" which was on their first EP and doesn't get much play live anymore. I think the traditional ROCK songs on Any Wonder are amazing, but Violet Nine shines the brightest in their ballads. The singers voice is amazing and drips with emotion without being over dramatic."All That Glitters" "Leaving Rain" and "Hope" are the standout songs for me.

Basically Any Wonder is the album i and all the Violet Nine fans have been waiting for for 2 years now. These guys work their ass off on the road, support the music scene and bring a professionalism to the music industry that will surely take them far.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't stop playing this album!!, April 26, 2006
This review is from: Any Wonder (Audio CD)
I saw this band by chance playing in Boston back in 2004 and I got hooked! Their music was really good back then, and now is even better. Since then I've been to many of their shows. You should see how they rock the crowd! Their album "Any Wonder" is in my iPod already. It's one of those albums you won't get tired of listening to. A must buy. Now.
