It worked one time. Then a couple days later it would no longer record, even though the red light indicated it was on. Then a few days later when I tried again it would not even show itself as connected when plugged into a USB port. Tried it on another PC to confirm that it stopped working. I have had a half dozen others like it from other makers, and they all worked.

The hidden spy recorder is amazing. First It came quite quickly and worked right out of the box. I tried it in church and sat in the back with it in my shirt pocket, and it picked up the service very well. It even picked up the preacher. There was only one that I didn't like about it------it picked up my singing too well.

I was initially skeptical of the device, as well as the full extent of it's capabilities. I have to say I am very much satisfied with it.
Based on a full charge of a few hours, I was able to test the run time of the internal battery, it ran for approximately 16hrs 12mins at least for me, so for you, give or take an hour at most. I used a free app called Audacity and was able to minimize ambient noise, to make it short, it worked for me, and has far exceeded my expectations for the price.

Just received this and you can NOT date and time stamp the recordings this thing makes. I made a test recording and it show 12/31/2013 at 11pm. I have no idea where this date/time comes from but it is not correct and there is no way to make it correct. Just so you know, if you need accurate date & time stamps on your recordings this thing will not do it.

I'm a videographer and sometimes I am in need of recording people's statements (audio quality doesn't matter for these statements... just simple consents, etc). This flash drive voice recorder records a ridiculous amount... so much so I bet most people would have trouble trying to max it out!

There are quite a few of these types of USB Voice Recorders on Amazon, but I would suggest going through the seller "IBSound". No I don't work for them, but I have corresponded with them, and I would tell my friends that they're good people with fast shipping.

Pros:
- 16GBs is the way to go: Never have to worry about running out of room.
- Small, unobtrusive, and nondescript.
- Handy built in USB plug is a breeze to charge and take the audio off.
- In my personal tests, each (1) minute of recorded time was 1MB. 1 Min to 1MB ratio... that's about 273 hours. (DANG!)
- While it was fuzzy, I could even make out my conversation when recording from inside my jean's pocket.

Cons:
- The audio format is strange. You have to install special software (I would recommend VLC Player if you don't have it already) in order to play the WAV audio. Note this WAV format is NOT your basic WAV format that plays on virtually every device. Something is odd with their WAV codec. If you want to us this audio in a video (e.g. you want to convert it to MP3 or ACC), then you'll need special conversion software. I use Emicsoft Video Converter for Mac to convert this WAV to MP3.

Overall I am impressed with this little device.

Note: You'll need the person's consent when recording someone's conversation... especially if used in a court of law. I'm not a lawyer, but that's what I've been told. (which is why you hear on those phone recordings, "We may record your telephone call for training and quality purposes." They have to tell you.)

Also note that I did receive a sample of this gadget in exchange for a thorough test and review.

Hope this helps!

It says it can record up to 15 hours continuously but it only recorded for 1 hour and 20 minutes then it shut off. It is easy to use and transfer to the computer to listen to and it has very clear sound. I just wish it would record longer continuously.

Works just as advertised. I haven't tried to record beyond 90 minutes, but so far so good. The recordings were done within 10 foot diameter and the voices came out pretty clearly. The only drawback is that you have to put it down somewhere and make sure it doesn't move around too much because it picks up the sound of every little movement. Well worth the price.

UPDATE:

Less than 6 months later, the device stopped working and there doesn't appear to be a fix for it. There is no return or trouble shooting provided by the manufacturer. It comes from China and the instructions barely make sense (actually pretty comical). I left it with 2 stars because when it was working, it was fantastic. I guess you get what you pay for, and at twenty bucks, I should have known it wouldn't last.

Have to give this a low rating. Depending on what you need it may work for you, but I would not purchase another.

On the plus side, the recorder is simple and easy to operate. Plug in to charge, flip the switch to record, turn off and plug in to access the recording(s). If it was reliable it would be good for recording meetings, classes, etc. And it does record well. The sensitivity and sound quality are truly amazing for such a small object with a pinhole microphone. It would not however, under any circumstances, be useful for "hidden spy" recording. A BRIGHT blue LED flashes continuously when recording, and the unit does not record while plugged into a USB port. So if you were wanting to unobtrusively record something you'd be out of luck. Most people would tend to notice a stray thumb drive flashing away while not connected to anything.

On the minus side, the instruction sheet is pathetic, even for something as simple to operate as this. Second, as above, it will not record while connected to a USB outlet so it only will work from it's internal battery which is unreliable. While the 8GB stick should record 15 hours of conversation, the battery seems to be good for 6 hours at most. If the battery runs out while recording it will not save the file so you have to keep watching the recorder for the red "warning light" flashes. As another commenter noted, the date/time stamp on the file defaults to what appears to be the manufacturer date for the recorder, which is sort of odd. You can rename the file but it would be nice to be able to see when it was created.

Now, all of those minuses are based on the recorder working normally. The unit I received did not work normally. It did initially work in line with the above. I was able to record 2 or 3 long meetings, but then the battery began to run out after an hour or so. Leaving the recorder plugged in for hours or overnight did not improve performance, it continued to decline until the unit would turn on for only a few seconds and then crash. Within two weeks it simply stopped working as a recorder. Various attempts to reset, reformat, hard reset, etc. failed. So now I am left with an 8GB flash drive that is bulky and expensive. By comparison, I have a 32GB flash drive that is the size of the metal end of the USB connector, and it cost less than $8. I would not recommend purchasing this unit unless you need a one-time recording device to capture 4-6 hours. Otherwise it is a waste of money.

Well I'm not sure how to treat this thing. I was so excited to get and try this out, and when I first opened the box to read the instructions, I pretty much just learned that "blue light twinkle is recording on off switch do this"

Seriously, that's about as coherent as the engrish instruction snippet is going to get. But it's not difficult to figure out. The device has one switch (no "menu" button as far as I see) for on/off. If you turn it on, it's recording. If you turn it off, it's not. That's it.

So after charging it (took about 40 mins, not bad) I turned it on, waited for the "blue twinkle", and recorded my first soundbite. Plugged it into my computer (a mac) and opened the recording folder. Oh joy! Record001.wav was there waiting for me! Time to listen back!

Annnnnnnnnddd it recorded 2 mins of the thumbdrive clicking. No audio, just the drive inside the case clicking.

Swell. Time to return this piece of crap, I thought.

But then I decided to try Bender's childcare advice and started hitting it. Turning it on, and then hitting it.

It works now. Each time I record, I run the risk of either getting perfectly clear audio, or the drive clicking. Hitting it seems to make it go the first path, so far, in the hour I've had it.

Would not recommend for important things. Too risky. I'm using this for capturing ideas in the shower.
