Gr. 6^-9. The author of
Could Someone Wake Me Up Before I Drool on the Desk? (1995) returns with another devotional for preteens. In a breezy style, replete with hip lingo and clever turns of phrase, Johnson offers solid advice about how to get along at school and at home. Whether discussing how to love God with all one's soul, mind, and strength or deciding the question of who runs a teen's life when parents aren't around, Johnson's advice neither condescends nor preaches. The devotional format may seem inappropriate for a library, but the 45 readings are lively and quirky enough to read in one or two sittings, though Johnson recommends that the reader not "hyperdrive" past the Bible citations but look them up and ponder them. There is much to think about in this volume, which treads the fine line between the ridiculous and the sublime but always reveals the infinite mercy and love of God.
