About the Author

Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1898. As a child, he spent much of his free time in that city's famous Hagenbeck Zoo drawing animals. After serving in the army during World War I, he studied philology and natural science at the University of Hamburg. He then married Margret Rey and they moved to Montmartre for four years. The manuscript for the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and Curious George was published in 1941. Curious George has been published in many languages, including French, German, Japanese, Afrikaans, and Norwegian. Additional Curious George books followed, as well as such other favorites as CECILY G. AND THE NINE MONKEYS and FIND THE CONSTELLATIONS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute Flap Book, June 23, 2003
By A Customer

This review is from: Anybody at Home? (Paperback)
This is a cute flap book that was recommended by the Before Five In A Row series. It's good for 2-5 year olds. The children enjoy the surprises behind the flaps. The flaps are designed as part of the whole page, with 1/4 of the page flipped over. So, the flaps are large and very easy to maneuver for the younger child. The book is educational too, in that, the child learns what type of homes animals and people live in.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of My Children's Favorite Books, August 28, 2008

This review is from: Anybody at Home? (Paperback)
The surprise behind each flap delighted my children. We all love Curious George, and the H. A. Rey flag books are equally engaging. I liked the concepts and the interactivity. We've probably read the book a hundred times, and my children always enjoyed this fun little book.

I remember these from when I was little. Sometimes a little dated, but still charming. My son loves to open the pages to see what he discovers.
