Editorial Reviews

From the award winning team of Susan Miller, Consulting Producer/writer on the The L Word & Thirtysomething, and filmmaker Tina Cesa Ward, Anyone But Me follows the journey of six teenagers and the adults who love them, as they ride the waves of sexual awaking and confront the complications of life in the 21st century.

Shot on location in New York City, with a multiethnic cast, the series revolves around Vivian McMillan, sixteen and gay. As the daughter of a NYC firefighter she goes through seismic changes when her father's health problems, resulting from 9/11, force them to move from the city to the suburbs. Navigating a long distance relationship with her girlfriend and developing a bond with a straight, African American boy fuel the heart of this dynamic series.

"Young love is luminous in Anyone But Me." SALON.com

"A relevant new drama." TUBEFILTER

"Transcends the oft-politicized aspects of its storyline, and simply reminds us of what it feels like to be young and in love." NEWTEEVEE.com

"A lovely web show... succeeds in showing us the potential of the medium." THE NEW YORK OBSERVER

"It is refreshingly apparent that this series delivers a more realistic depiction of teenage issues compared to the oft-escapist TV shows populated with vapid and privileged youth." PHILADELPHIA GAY NEWS

"This year's best new teen drama." SHEWIRED.com

5.0 out of 5 stars I love my ABM April 2, 2010
I have loved Anyone But Me (ABM) from pretty much the beginning, but I feared that this was one of those shows that would only find a niche market on the internet so to see it available on DVD makes me immensely happy because now maybe a lot more people would watch it. I don't know the last time I followed a series by actually watching it on TV, so the webseries format that ABM originally took seems like the natural evolution for shows to take. It's still a relatively new medium however, but ABM is the very definition of what quality programming online can be. I cannot recommend this show enough.

There is an unbelievable amount of talent on this show. The way the stories and the characters are written is outstanding, Susan Miller deserves (and has rightly been awarded some of them including an Obie) every writing accolade there is. She crafts dialogue and situations which ask important questions and raises issues that should be at the forefront of our minds without ever making you feel as though you're being preached to. All of this is brought beautifully to our screens by Tina Cesa Ward. I don't know a thing about directing but whatever instruction she is giving the cast it works. Absolutely. And what a cast!

The whole cast are believable in their portrayal and though the majority of them are young (although they're playing a lot younger) they approach their roles with the maturity and fearlessness required. I think that the fact that they are 20-somethings playing high school kids - convincingly, only further demonstrates how talented they are.

You can't help but fall in love with Vivian (Rachael Hip-Flores - remember this name coz she's gonna be big). She is trying so hard to be everything to everyone when she's still not sure of who she is yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Webseries April 15, 2010
Verified Purchase
I watched Season 1 online in an entire sitting all the while telling myself at midnight, "I'll just watch one more and stop." Didn't happen. I'm hooked. For me, this is a coming of age tale that allows you to look back and remember, then smile (at times grimace)and then wonder will they make the same mistakes or make the same conquests that I did.

This is a very well written and produced series that just keeps getting better. The bonus material is a welcome compliment to the storyline.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Anyone But Me" is Anything But Ordinary April 13, 2010
Verified Purchase
"Anyone But Me" is the incredibly well-written and well-acted web series from the minds of Susan Miller and Tina Cesa Ward. Miller and Ward boast resumes in television and film and now they are in the vanguard of web series production. Featuring a cast that spans ages and ethnicities, "Anyone But Me" shows us how both teenagers and adults cope with love and life here in the 21st century.

You will be astounded by the quality of the production in all facets. The young actors were a revelation to me. Rachel Hip-Flores, who just won a Streamy Award for best actress in a dramatic web series, plays Vivian. Nicole Pacent, one of the stars of the upcoming independent film "Queens of the World", portrays Vivian's girlfriend Aster. It's so rare to hear real, evocative dialogue written these days and Miller and Ward deliver it episode after episode. And the actors really seem to inhabit the characters and speak the dialogue as if it was coming from their own thoughts.

You will not be disappointed by your investment, financially or emotionally, in "Anyone But Me".

4.0 out of 5 stars A Simple But Elegant Web Series June 21, 2011
By Ax20
Vivian is an out and proud teen in New York, dating longtime girlfriend Aster. But when her father has to move out of the city for health reasons, their relationship becomes complicated. In her small new town, Vivian isn't sure how people look at gay people, so she doesn't tell anyone, causing problems with her and Aster's relationship. Unlike most web series, this one is both well acted, well written, and well produced. It's a more honest and real look at the life of a gay teen than any we have seen on TV. There is no question about whether or not they are gay, there is no bullying. Ultimately, being gay is treated as a normal way of life and the complications come only from denying the truth of themselves. At the moment the show isn't multi-layered enough for TV (only because they are limited in time and therefore focus) but were this given the chance, and with the development of the other characters, this show has the potential to be made into a full length show.

Anyone but me is one of the best assemble i've seen. Great writing, great talents and great show. The dvd is so worth the price if you're an ABM supporter. show revolves around 16 year old vivian and a diversity of characters. I thought that ABM would be another typical show but i decided to give it a shot and could not be any more wrong about it. The storyline and cast just blew me away. All in all, a great buy for a great drama.

5.0 out of 5 stars The future of good lesbian entertainment May 22, 2010
Verified Purchase
This Series is a good example for a very entertaining product when women can produce a lesbian storyline without restrictions. Clever and funny !! Only one advice: It would be surely also be a hit in other countries when the DVD would contain subtitles. At least in English !
Can't wait for Season 2 on DVD!
