Book Description

4 and upP and up
Emit the elf, entrusted by Santa to help deliver presents on Christmas Eve, falls out of the sleigh at the very beginning of this all-important holiday trip! In search of Christmas again, Emit travels through all of the holidays of the year, meeting many new friends, while searching for December 25th. What he finds out, he knew all along. The answer to his search was right inside his very own name. 'Emit' is 'Time' spelled backwards, and that's all this plucky little Elf needs -- just a little time with those closest to him.

Review

(This) Michigan book publisher just got a very big Christmas present. Of the thousands of books released every holiday season . . . Mackinac Island Press of Traverse City Michigan got a shot at the big time. The buzz has been something of a windfall. --The Wall Street Journal

Has Anyone Seen Christmas? has become a runaway hit this holiday season. Phones are ringing off the hook at Mackinac Island Press and Walt Disney Co. has called to inquire about the movie rights. Has Anyone See Christmas? is about an elf named Emit (time spelled backwards), who was conceived out of Anne Margaret Lewis' frustration that there's not enough time in one day to do things. As the story developed, Emit becomes Santa Claus' navigator on Christmas Eve, but falls out of the sleigh and must find his way back to Christmas by traveling through all the other holidays during the year, befriending Cupid and the Easter Bunny, among others, along the way. Emit even attends a child's birthday party because it's a child's own special holiday. As to the child's identity, the author responded it is the child reading the book. Lewis also pointed out that Santa is hidden on every holiday page because he watches you all year long. --The Detroit News

Has Anyone Seen Christmas? is the season's little book that could . . . it has been riding higher than author Anne Margaret Lewis or anyone else could have ever expected. Since Thanksgiving, Lewis' story of Emit the Elf and his search for Christmas has . . . ascended into the heady company of works by James Patterson, Jimmy Carter and Sue Grafton on the list of the top 100 books in the nation on Amazon.com --Chicago Tribune

About the Author

Anne Margaret Lewis is the author of Tears of Mother Bear, Hidden Cherries, Hidden Pumpkins, Lighthouse Fireflies, and of course, Has Anyone Seen Christmas? She has a child-like imagination that sees stories in the natural world around us all. She is a sought-after guest in both public libraries and elementary schools and is always looking for the next fictional character or evocative rhyme that will spark a child's interest in reading and creating.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very special Christmas book for all holidays, November 26, 2005
This review is from: Has Anyone Seen Christmas? (Hardcover)
This book has the extra pieces that make a children's book special. It is a very cute story, very fresh and unique. The writing is very strong and the rhyme, repeated through the book is excellent for young children.
The artwork is spectacular. The dust jacket says the illustrations are watercolor, acrylic, pen and ink and chalk--I see them, and they are magical. The hidden santa's on the pages are a very good touch. I wonder how many people notice the tribute to Thomas Nast on the New Year's Eve page--it is a great trivia question for adults.
I would strongly recommend this book. Children will love the story, the characters (the elf falls from Santa's sleigh and goes from holiday to holiday looking for Christmas--very very cute!) and the warm playfullness the story has. Adult will really like the story, love the art, and the message at the end for children.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a holiday keepsake., November 19, 2005
This review is from: Has Anyone Seen Christmas? (Hardcover)

Anne Margaret Lewis' "Has Anyone Seen Christmas?" is sure to be Holiday Classic. Vibrant color schemes and a clever refrain make this a joy to read, and reread. Children will delight in trying to find Christmas with Emit, as well as enjoy seeing all the other holidays together. Popko's illustrations are timeless and children will enjoy spending time just devouring her pictures, studying each holiday, and trying to find each holiday on the pages as the story progresses. What makes this book a true treasure is, not only is it highly entertaining it delivers a nice message with out being too noticeable in doing so. This is a holiday keepsake.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a truly delightful children's book is this!, December 6, 2005
This review is from: Has Anyone Seen Christmas? (Hardcover)
As a Michigander myself, it always pleases me when an author, illustrator and/or an in-state publisher makes it big. This book is on its way to becoming a Christmas classic. As I understand it, the most books sold by this publisher to date (I believe that book was written by the same author) was 15,000. Has Anyone Seen Christmas has already exceeded that number and it looks like as many as 90,000 will be sold this Christmas season.

It's a delightful tale of an Elf named Emit who falls off Santa's sleigh and then spends time (Emit spelled backwards. Clever.) going through our yearly holidays to find Christmas, Santa, and his sleigh once again. During his odyssey, Emit also learns the true meaning of Christmas. The story is well-written and will warm your heart. Wendy Popko, the illustrator, does an exquisite job on the book's pictures. (Wendy recently drew a picture "live" on Detroit's WJR radio's Frank Beckman Show and it sold for over $1500 on ebay just a few days ago.)

You and your children/grandchildren will love looking for the hidden Santas, will delight in the excellent illustrations, and will become very involved in Emit's desperate search for Christmas.

Each year we select a Christmas story for our eight grandchildren. Guess which one got the nod this year? Kudos to Anne Margaret Lewis, Wendy Popko, and Mackinac Island Press.
