Anyone have any luck opening the MP4 files in a video editing program? Which one works?

Adobe Premiere Elements 11 works fine. I have edited the videos using this.

open the file with gopro cineform studio software (downloadable for free on the gopro site) convert it to the right standard and then you will be able to open it

They don't work very well with finalcut, however you can download streamclip for free and use it to turn the mp4's into more workable MOVs.
