Keri Cassidy's best friend passed away leaving two teenagers motherless. She stepped in and took in the children, adopting them and treating them as her own. When the coach suspends her son, Bryan from the basketball team, she is furious and determined to make the coach see that Bryan is a good kid and deserves to play.

Coach Grady Quinlan is a great basketball coach whose own sports career ended when he was injured. He has come to coach a high school team at his cousins urging after being fired from a college coaching job who made accusations of bribery. Grady knows he is innocent, and stands to make sure the team he coaches is honest and fair.

Keri and Grady both want what is best for Bryan (and his sister) yet both feel strongly that they know the truth. Keri does not want to admit maybe Bryan is getting special treatment as the star player, but as the season and school year progresses Grady's accusations against Bryan become clearer and clearer.

Darlene Gardner has created a novel filled with drama and love. She takes a sticky subject and brings it to the table in a tale that shows just how many hurdles one person can overcome, and keep coming out stronger. Her characters are well developed; they come across as people, not just words on a page. This is an author to be watched and this reviewer will be seeking out her backlist.

Keri Cassidy had two great kids. Bryan never gave her a bit of trouble. He was a star basketball played, and got great grades. He was the all American boy. So when Bryan got suspended for cheating Keri just could not believe it. There had to be something wrong.
Grady Quinlan believed in doing everything above board and never even let a little bit of grey enter the picture. So when he learned that Bryan was accused of cheating he would not let it go even if his mother was someone he could find interesting. Grady was going to get to the bottom it of it if it was the last thing he did. Because where there is smoke there is fire and to Grady there was more to Bryan's story than met the eye.
Keri couldn't understand why the new coach was picking on Bryan, he was a good kid. Now Keri found out something about Grady that explains why he is doing what he done. What is really weird is that Keri has feelings for Grady, and Grady for her. How can these two get together when there is a big obstacle, Bryan?
Darlene Gardner has come up with another winner with Anything for her Children. I was pulled into Keri's life as she tried to drawn out her daughter Rose from the shell she had wrapped herself in, and as Keri tried to get to the bottom of the accusations against Bryan. It was easy to cheer Keri on as she worked hard for her kids and for the new love interest in her life.

4.0 out of 5 stars engaging contemporary romance, May 11, 2008
This review is from: Anything For Her Children (Harlequin Super Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
When the boy's hoops coach suffers a heart attack, Grady Quinlan is hired as an interim coach at undefeated Springfield High School. However, Grady has an incident from the onset when he catches superstar Bryan Charleton cheating in his nutrition and exercise class. He suspends the teen from the basketball team. This outrages the community who has suddenly become fans of a winning team.

Worried about her other charge Rose, Keri Cassidy refuses to believe that one of her adopted children would cheat so she confronts the coach. However, she begins to believe in his integrity over that of an outraged Bryan. Grady is attracted to the lioness who defends her cub, but fears she will bench him once she learns of the Carolina State College scandal that sent him back to high school coaching.

ANYTHING FOR HER CHILDREN is an engaging contemporary romance starring an ethical coach who believes values are the key V over victories and a caring woman who adopts children. Although Keri is too easily is persuaded that Grady is right and her child Bryan is wrong except when they talk about the teen, fans will enjoy this interesting tale of love between two principled people.
