5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing!, May 5, 2005
This review is from: Anything Else But the Truth (Audio CD)
Wow! This album is brilliant. A masterpiece. Worthy of bowing down on the floor kind of credit. First of all, how do two people make such beautiful music? Moving on, lyrically, it's the best that I've heard in quite some time. Of course, Everything I Once Had is outstanding, such as everyone else has already said, but let me just quote real fast to influence you,
"February, Valentine's Day, did my best to avoid the red cliques, so you dump me on the subway on my way to work at nine in the morning, everybody else is holding bouquets, now I'm holding my face in the basement, scratching away for a trace, of affection you would leave, falling victim to the public spray."

Holy...wow, that's good, no? However, every song on this CD is of equal value in it's own way. Right now I'm really loving "Anything Else But the Truth," (the song, you already know that I love the album^^) No two songs sound alike, which is great...and I have to say, although Everything I Once Had was what drove me to this album, I love every single song. Melodically, as well, this album is amazing, there is just not one bad thing that I can say about it at all...nothing, just buy it,....NOW!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Crazy mad props...., February 26, 2006

Sure they've toured with Dashboard Confessional, but just because they were on the same bill doesn't necessarily mean they fall into the same genre.

I bought this cd after hearing the driven break up track "Everything I Once Had". There are a few other songs like this on the cd, "Revealing Too Much" and "Points Underneath" come to mind off the top of my head. These songs will totally get under your skin and remain in your head long after you've listened to them. Some of the more upbeat songs kind of remind me of a fusion between Hot Hot Heat, The Strokes, and Our Lady Peace. But make no mistake, on a whole THT have created a vibe all their own. Although, having said to be influenced by Jeff Buckley, you can't help but notice soaring vocal similarities in tracks like "Disengage". Jarrod Gorbel has this unique voice, sometimes it's warbly & sometimes he's screaming at the top of his lungs... not to be confused with "screamo" music though, because it's not like that. Just really intense and passionate vocals that ultimately draw you in and make you keep listening. When I listen to his voice & combine it with the lyrical content, I picture urban New York streets...tall old buildings with people out on the stoops, a deserted subway car late at night...ETC. The band is from Brooklyn and Gorbel's style depicts that appropriately so.

THT make great creative music quite simplistically really. The music itself is not too complex, but what they do with it is anything but forgettable.

This debut is beyond impressive. The songs are poignant without being too introspective, edgy without being over the top, and catchy without being irritating. I'd say it's pretty excellent from start to finish.

Anyone willing to try something different will not regret checking this out. It has quickly become one of my favorites.

EDIT 5/28/06 --- Had this CD for several months now and it is still something I want to hear nearly every other day.

Updated Edit Sept. 29, 2008 --- I still revisit this album and love almost every song, 2 yrs later...and their latest CD "Scream and Light up the Sky" is equally (if not moreso) amazing. Don't miss The Honorary Title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible!, June 6, 2005
This review is from: Anything Else But the Truth (Audio CD)
I don't normally take the time to review anything, but I feel so strongly about this CD that I had to take a minute to let everyone know how fantastic the entire CD is. I saw these guys play in a show a while ago and they are great live as well.
All of these songs are unique and catchy. This CD is well worth the money and is one to play for a long time. I hope these guys get some more exposure, they are extremely talented!

Buy it! You won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Never Boring, September 28, 2005
This review is from: Anything Else But the Truth (Audio CD)
The best thing about this album is that nothing sounds the same. Everything has its own distinct sound, yet you can still tell that its The Honorary Title. Its a slower album, so its very mellowing. I give it a 5 star because of any album ive heard in recent memory, it has the broadest range of tone and style. The sound changes drastically from a happier rock/pop sound with "Frame by Frame", to very emo with "Everything I Once Had", and then to a country twang with "Points Underneath". All in all, ive found this to be one of my favorite albums of all time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hah...wow, August 10, 2005
This review is from: Anything Else But the Truth (Audio CD)
Okay, so the music is absolutely beautiful. I'm not a gigantic fan of the vocals- but you get used to them in no time. The beautifull crafted songs are just amazing and have evoked the weirdest emotions in me- and I love it. While maybe this isn't a "five-star" cd...the way it makes me feel each time I listen to it IS "five-star" material. If you heard one of these songs randomly at a party or something, I doubt you'd like it. But when you take this cd home and listen? Boy will you love it...the opening track is insanely gorgeous with a gaunting piano line and equally moving vocals. So do yourself a favor- buy this cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite discovery of the year!, May 2, 2005
This review is from: Anything Else But the Truth (Audio CD)
This cd is absolutely incredible... went to see Straylight Run recently and they opened for them, and i was instantly drawn in, which doesn't usually happen for me w/ an opening act. Bought the cd there @ the show, and it has been playing constantly ever since. Ridiculous melodies and amazing lyrics- the lead singer's voice is full of emotion and ur basically sucked in, whether u like it or not... and trust me, u will. Esp. love "Everything I Once Had," "Cut Short," "Snow Day," and "Cats in Heat," but everything is stellar. def. recommend this album.
